Light out on trailer

gnasty gnome:
Okay, I’ve read all the way through this thread, no-one’s asked the most obvious question yet so bugger it I will…

… how many Trucknet members does it take to change a light bulb? :grimacing: :grimacing:

I’d say two…one to do it whilst showing me how to do it

I can even remember the days of visiting Hull Docks and needing a tallyman, four stevedores to hang a chain on at each corner and a tug driver then took it to an electrician to plug the container in, at least it kept 7 blokes in work

welshboyinspain:
‘…think you’re a bit out of order on … toilet paper … habits … disgrace when most of the uk is covered in plastic bottles full of urine…’

Not a lot ‘…out of order…’: The observation supports my suggestion that this nation is disenfranchised from the mire of odious administration from the pro-Euro political mainstream.

welshboyinspain:
‘…my location in europe was dictated solely by my job in the uk being taken by east europeans for less money and my local christian school for my daughter becoming muslim religion school because of their growing numbers…’

Glad to learn that some are alright from not previously coping, but since Spanish unemployment is higher than here, I can’t imagine working Britons being thoroughly embraced over there. Also, some here might note the previous pop at Moorey who is still in Blighty with the reality of Euro reg’s nausea around his neck. Credit to him for not yet having accepted the sun-soaked equivalent of having his head buried in any Costa Blancan sand.

welshboyinspain:
‘…as far as killer diseases go i think the uk is the third worst for swine flu at the moment…’

Manana? Is it possible that when sufficient bull-fight tourists, Euro-chavs & Spanish retards on their donkeys venture to market, it’ll slothfully embrace Spain too? It’ll do us a favour if it doesn’t rush to the UK - a net cash provider - for an extra ‘EU grant’ to compensate for lost sombrero siesta time though.

you’re obviously not a big fan of the EU then Keith especially those of us who live in fellow states that you might percieve to “take” more than they “give” towards the european finances. shame really that we have to put up with 700,000 working and benefit scrounging immigrants from one particular european country that rhymes with pomania but the uk can limit them from entering and “working” even though we are all meant to be “equal” some certain countries are definitely more equal than others

That bit is accurate, welshy mate, but I have scant grievance with any other nation although have noted that it is popularly regarded as being sinful to be a pro-British Briton.

Meanwhile, I’m saddened that as working bloke I am lumbered into a melting pot intended to homogenise everyone living & working within the geographical region of ‘Europe’. That includes a ghastly series of one-size-fits-all rulebooks for our health, our safety and our supposed welfare whilst at work - which is how Moorey began with his light bulb changing conundrum.

I’d gag to be led by a pro-British leader who would harness our heritage for hard-work & enterprise through our proven sound ethic to work for Britain’s interest into the 22nd century: I don’t particularly wanna share it with others that don’t speak - or wanna speak my language because I’d like to keep it local within our defendable islands whilst maintaining friendship, beer & skittles with the world. It works well for non-EU Norway & Switzerland (very, very well, actually: They are both loaded!).

However, as I see it our populist parties strive to dilute, corrupt & abuse us with a confusing collection of Euro-rules which few of us morons originally voted for but are blithely expected to endorse through the politicians of the mainstream (ie, those feathering a cosy Brussels retirement nest-egg vis-a-vis the Kinnocks, Blair et al).

Fair enough if it was meant to stop the Germans starting another war (it’s worked so far, hoorah) but enough is enough if we’re squabbling about who can do what in our endeavour to earn a crust in the workplace using a rulebook made up by an undemocratic committee of Jacques, Claude, Fritz, Jurgen & Guiseppes, etc.

Diversity, Mr Brown? No thanks, fella.

How many phycyatrists (spelling woooops) does it take to change a light bulb?

Only 1 - - but the light bulb’s really got to want to change

busby forgot to mention that the bulbs were fitted to a large luxury motor cruiser when he bought them

I must be going to Hell because today i put a bulb in a Trailer that wasn’t mine because the other driver had none. Im sat here quaking just incase his boss finds out it was me.

Do people deliberately mis-read posts just so that they can post their own angry rubbish? The origonal post asked a fair question, it would appear that the writer is working for one of those companies that have a ‘safety officer’ for every occasion.
As an O.D for 39 years and an employed driver for 3 years before that I have always carried spares and the tools to do some quite complicated repairs but I was a trained mechanic before taking up driving. It was expected that when you worked for a general haulage co. and were away all week you could keep the truck running.
Now I am semi-retired I work for 5 or 6 different co’s. 2 of them have their transport handled by a large co. named after a Somerset town but have different operating systems, at one they have their own work shops and the drivers are not allowed to touch anything (so I don’t) at the other one drivers are handed bulbs and a screwdriver and asked to change the offending bulb (so I do) but a few weeks ago a woman driver refused to change about 6 marker bulbs (not her job) but drove in the dark about 10 miles to a garage! At this co. I have just been told I can no longer pull double deck trailers or operate the moving decks because I have not been trained to their system!I have been pulling them for about 6 months and at another co previously. Incidently I have heard drivers talking , saying at this co the first £200 of a ‘defect fine’ will be paid by the driver, but as I have not signed to agree to this I won’t be doing it, it works both ways! I am treated as a number so I act as a number.
So what is the answer to the question? I don’t know, it depends on the co and what their attitude to getting small repairs done is. Bear in mind one point you can do it right a 1000 times and nothing will be said , do it wrong once and you will never hear the end of it :imp:

Question:
This country, which rhymes to zomania, entered EU year or two ago. As for Polish people you have to WORK in UK minimum two years before getting any benefits (hand on experience, had a car accident after 23 months of working here, was injured and unable for work and did not got a penny, including refundable crisis loan) how it’s possible, that citizens of this mystery country are getting that benefits?

Isn’t it just another myth?

This is some thread, its meandering all over the place.

I never thought a marker light could provoke such strong feelings.

Politics in the seventies, the EU, immigrants, benefits and reasons for the destruction of the once heavenly transport industry.

Do us lorry drivers have a big chip on our shoulder or what.

sorry orys but its not a myth. when they joined along with bulgaria the uk imposed limits on the influx of these people to stop them all piling over and claiming benefits but the spanish government thought it wouldn’t need it
last month the employment secretary of the spanish government met with the romanian ambassador to see if they could reach an agreement on repatriating some of the 700,000 who now live here (just out of interest there are only about 300,000 brits) because of the huge drain on the benefits system.
but they won’t leave as long as the national average wage in romania is 400 euros but NOT working in spain pays more :open_mouth:
as far as i know orys every pole i’ve met works for their wages and thats fair by me

Sorry, I thought that you are talking about Britain.

what am i going to do now? side light out and i’m away in morecombe, i don’t have a ladder to get up to it, nor the health and safety training to do it!

though on the side of the OP i did get a right rollicking once for fixing a throttle linkage that had come adrift, i thought i was doing the company a favor by fixing it and getting home, but was put on report for not calling out a fitter!
