Lift axle on merc

can the lift axle be adjusted, the one on mine keeps going down even on an empty trailer. had a word with workshop they say no as it would cause the axle to over load. anyone shed any light on this.

They do have a habit of dropping much earlier than any other marque, but I’ve not known them to drop with an empty trailer - however 2t on the headboard …

The mid lift on the Mercs is so sensitive it only needs a feather dropping on top of the mud guard and down it will come. They’re a ■■■■■■■ nightmare when the road is damp  .

the axle loading can be adjusted at a main agent, its not a DIY job

i had a 55 reg 2546 Mega Space, and i had that problem (dropping axle with hardly any weight on trailer)

Check the air pressure sensor on the rear axle air bag.Its the same “switch” as the oil pressure and park brake light switch. Its not an ordinary open/closed switch but a variable resistance transducer so its voltage output can be used for all different pressures.
I think you can vary the voltage that drops the axle in the “paramatisable” ecu using the stars machine.

I know it sounds a load of bloody gobbldy ■■■■ but thats what Mercedes call this bloody stuff.

We pick up empty pallets and bags of cardboard (not compacted cardboard) and even with that spread the full length of the trailer, that mid lift drops. They are a right pain, especially in the wet
the DAFs aren’t much better. Although the trailers are a lot heavier (24.5T empty), they still like to drop but oddly enough, not until we fuel up 11 kms from the depot
