got sent form D47P and form D798 from DVLA do i need to fill in both or just D47P.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will send you, 56 days before the expiry of your driving entitlement, a D47P ‘application for renewal of lorry and bus entitlement’ and a D4 ‘medical examination report’.

D47P is for renewal of a truck or bus entitlement and D798 is for renewing a photo I believe.

If your photo is nearing expiry then you can take the opportunity to renew it at the same time and you would use the other form to do that. There should be something on your D47P which tells you if your photo is due for renewal, I’m guessing there is if they have sent the D798.
on the d47p form at the top it says my photo is due for renewal and to enclose one.
seems it is duplicating the d798 form

Thank you - I think I’ve only used a D4 - never took that much notice of the form number to be honest - fill in form, sign & send
Not had to do a photo renewal yet - 2013 for mine
You are being invited to do things, take an HGV medical and renew the photo on your licence. If you decline to do the latter, DVLA will write to you again before your photo expires. This is possibly only a few months away so you have the option to kill two birds with one stone.
