Licence renewal

just had the dreaded “lorry and bus renewal” thing through but not a clue what to do? The leaflets don’t help. My categories run until 45 in 2027 but the 4b bit of my licence is what needs renewing. Thats just the photocard validity isn’t it? I don’t need a medical for that aged 37 do I?

No medical required. I’m no expert but I’d be surprised if in this age of digital if they couldn’t take your likeness from your passport. Always assuming you have an up to date one of course.

Top of form says no fee or photo required, see guidance for working out of a medical is needed.

Well in that case at 37 with no pre existing medical conditions a medical will not be required.

So it’ll just be filling in the yes/no questions then?

Tbh I cannot see it being anything other than that.

Filling in the medical questionnaire is all that is required, 4b is when your entitlement expires, the rules changed in jan 2013 for new passes, in that your licence will be valid for 5 years and you will have to fill in the medical form yourself to confirm you are still fit to hold a group 2 licence.
The same rule also applies to drivers who held a group 2 licence prior to jan 2013 when their licence expires, which is likely to be when a photo is required, but those will have already changed to a five year cycle with medical declaration to renew, even if they are under 45.
Those licenses issued before 2013 no longer last until your reach your 45th birthday, like they used to do.

I literally ticked a few boxes, signed it and sent it. Didn’t even send my old photo card with it. They werent having that until I’d got my new one. Took about 4 weeks to come back during the initial full lockdown so probably quicker again now.

Great. Cheers guys.

So I’m reading it as…

Fill in the form/tick relevant medical boxes and send. No fee, no photo, no D4 medical?
