The digi card and driving licence photo renewal expire at the same time,a few weeks difference, can you not drive while all that is being sent off for renewal or not?
You are allowed to drive for 15 calender days without a Digi Card. You must inform your employer of the first day you don’t have the card, then every day until you the recieve the replacement you need to do a print out in the morning and explain every minute from 00:00 of that day and one at the end of the day explaining the day. I have known DVLA to let a couple of weeks go and allow you to update both card and photo at the same time, but they can be harsh and make you update it, then update a new photo meaning you pay twice.
Thanks for that info, can i drive abroad when i have sent off the driving licence,as it will need a new photo, and roughly at the same time,i will need to take the medical too,am i parked up,untill all that is sorted out.
The instructor on the last dcpc course was on about some guy,who had to pay several hundred pounds to the dvla/dvlc,as they sent back his licence with entitlements missing, the driver did not photocopy anything,so the government said prove what you had on it before,or pay us to do the research, with some kind of penalty.
Not sure if it was dcpc made up non-sense drivel to fill the void in the day or not, they do come out with some crackers,on the loading course, there was a mathematical formulae to work out where to postition the load,i have never seen that before,it was for one pallet, not for a full load, and how to disperse the load, and not over-load the axles.
ADR licence`s are due to have the drivers photo on them, not sure when though, more additional tax,i mean cost to us poor drivers.
You can drive while they are away but if it is only a couple of weeks difference, it will be easier to cut your losses, the DL lasts for 10 years, the Digi for 5, but you do not have to have the same photo on both to drive.

Simplest way is to use the photo card renewal service at selected post offices, they take your new photo and the DVLA will use that image on both cards.
It normally costs more than £4.50 for a supermarket picture anyway and the PO will ensure it is correct and send it all off for you.
If you do the “managers CPC” there is a formula for you to work out axle weights according to the amount of axles along with the length of the truck. It is involved and to be honest for most drivers not required, suprised they put that in there? I always have a copy of my most up to date details, licence, ADR, Digi card, DCPC card, then if I get robbed, they get lost or even lost in the post, at least you have what was lost. Going abroad without all the “bumpf” could open yourself up for long waits if pulled over. Also with your medical coming up I personally would get it all sorted first. Can do without sitting in the cells while some slow foreign copper takes two days to get your details!

Toby they told me that in 1980 and I am still waiting for mine
They also told me they would be combined with my driving licence.
Mr Alan Walker are you here
Cheers Wheelnut,my lgv expires at the same time,to take the medical, the digi photo runs out at the same time, along with the photo renewal for the driving licence,i will photo copy all though.
Are you sure i can go abroad with no licence in my hand, they may not accept how the uk does things in the uk,i can see the telephone number sized fines already,Pays Basco.!!Basque country.

If you photocopy both parts of your driving licence, plus the DVLA Application form or the copy from the Post Office you can drive in Europe too.
In reality I have only been asked to show my driving licence in Europe about twice in the last 25 years
The load spreading was measuring the length from the front axle, and more calculations from that,it the same thing we had to do in the RAF to calculate floor loading intensities on all aircraft floors, complex maths for oil and fuel barrels, for the rim underneath the barrel.
Its a good formula to use, but in practice is hard to acheive, especially if you have mixed loads say on a flat bed trailer and are trying to keep the axle weights below their maximum. As with most things good in the classroom, not so good in the real world!

This post could do to be in a different thread really.
So I have asked you to collect a uniform load in Scunthorpe Steel Works. The order is for 1 large coil which weighs 21800kg. It is for delivery to Aberdeen and it is snowing
Where are you going to put it on your 5 axle artic?

…the digi photo runs out at the same time…
The digi card photo doesn’t run out, the card runs out at the date shown on line 4b. You don’t send the digi card off for renewal when it expires, they will write to you well in advance and you will have your new card long before the old one expires. You just continue to use the old one until it expires and then keep it for 28 days.
If you are renewing the photo on your licence at the same time as applying for your replacement digi card then I would imagine the new card will come with the new photo. You won’t be without your digi card at any point in this procedure so can still drive.
As already ether is no requirement to have the same photo on both cards. My licence photo is valid until June 2014 and my current digi card until June 2016 so for a couple of years I will have different photos on both. It’s entirely possible that someone who has had a ■■■ change, where no name change is necessary could have a photo of them as a bloke on one card and a woman on the other.
I’ve always continued to drive in Europe when changing my licence, renewal, change of address, and it has never been a problem with supporting documentation. We aren’t the only country whose licences expire or need to be sent away for change of address.
