Lgv training with st loyes foundation

hi all this is my first post as i am new to this site
well start from the top really i was made redundant a bit over 12 months ago and was working in the stores warehousing and distribution work i went to job centre and have asked about funding for hgv licence as have wanted to do it for some years but was in a steady job or so i thought so now wish to pursue a career in driving them instead of unloading/loading them. because i am presently classed as a carer for my daughter whom is disabled the jobcentre said will look at training and i had eventually some good news in december saying the funding could be done through st loyes foundation who work with the jobcentre
just wondering if anyone on here has heard of st loyes and if anyone has had any dealings with them.

also i am now thinking of trying to pay for training myself if this st loyes doesnt come off as am now itching to get back to work i want to drive c+e how much would i be looking at for training and how long will it take roughly.
iam near chester and have looked at a few training providers but i cant afford to be ripped off saw one called hindley green training he looks a fair one but if anyone knows of him advice on what his training is likke would be appreciated

sorry its a long post but thought id start from the top

regards john

Welcome to Trucknet-UK Wanna-b-a-newbie

If the job centre are arranging funding why would you want to fund it yourself ?

edit:
Sorry I misread your post, I can now see that you’re thinking of funding it yourself if you don’t get the other funding.

Have you tried the Shaw Trust for funding

shaw-trust.org.uk/home

As they do funding for people like yourself or ESF

Welcome to madhouse

This may help in finding a provider near you

thanks for the links have been onto the jobcentre and looks like training might actually happen in the next few weeks got my fingers and toes crossed.
neverthe less i have booked my theory test at chester for a week on monday so have started reading through the book revising (does anyone know the pass mark) if i pass that i will be getting the hazard perception booked then when this training materialises all i have really got to do is the practical side and the cpc.

i know i will probably get told what the cpc case studies is when i start training but what is it?

thanks all

have you had the medical yet and sent of to dvla for cat c1 on your licence .just a thought ,you could be doing this while your waiting for the practicall to come through

Hi Wanna-b-a-newbie,

Have you considered trying to get funding from REACT?
There are certain qualifying criteria, but if you do qualify, then REACT may be able to help.

Here is a list of training providers that are recommended by TNUK members:

No need to apologise mate, we don’t have a rule about word-count. :grimacing:

I’d like to wish you good luck in your efforts.

Hiyyaaa wanna-b-a-newbie, just as a guide, - the pass mark for theory multiple choice test last may(2010) was 85 correct answers out of 100 questions, & hazard perception was 67 out of a possible 100 points. I state only as a guide as this may have altered since!! so if you aim for 100% you cant go wrong  & welcome
