LGV DUTY HOURS

I am a LGV Multi Drop delivery driver. my company regularly asks me to do a 15 hour day taking a reduced Daily Rest Break of 9 hours. The drivers hours law says 11 hour daily rest break which can be reduced to 9 hours 3 times a week i was of the opinion this was drivers discretion but my company say they can insist apon it.
Further on this issue ware do i stand on Health and Saftey can it be reasonable for a company to ask a lgv driver to drive a vehicle after working for 13 or 14 hours, if i say i am not safe because of tiredness and fatigue due to excessive hours is that reasonable on my part.Could the company say you are not capable of doing the job and should leave or change shift patton from 4 days a week to 5.
What i am trying to do is prevent an accedent before it happens not just me, but also other drivers at my company.
I think this is a major issue and needs sorting.

I’m not sure about who has the say about taking reduced rest, but what is worth pointing out is the Working Time Directive, which basically says you can’t average more than 48 hours duty over a reference period (usually 17 or a max of 26 weeks) THERE IS NO OPT OUT  .

Max working time in any week is 60 hours, no ifs no buts.

I’m sure if you whinge on the grounds of H+S, you’ll be ushered out of the door.

Edit: PS welcome by the way

If your company want you to drive when you say you are tired then ask them to put that in writing :exclamation:
