LGV drivers with fake licences

All firms can verify if a driver has a licence or has been banned before hiring the driver for work, and at regular intervals the boss will ask to see your licence.
So how did an airline fail to do this, and American faked a pilots licence and flew large jets in to the Uk from the USA, he was an USAF pilot .
There was a film made about a fraudster starring Leonardo de Caprio who got a uniform, sat in the jump seat to get a free ride and fly the plane.
In India, two pilots had fake licences.

Have you missed your medication today? Totally baffled by your thread.

I think he’s referring to the ex USAF pilot that’s been flying commercial Libyan jets into London without the relevant training or qualifications. Incidentally he was found out by a proper pilot on an internet forum.

Unlike us pilot licences don’t have photographs so anyone can go on a computer & make one if they really wanted to. Airlines don’t care about things like that, all they’re mostly bothered about is how much money you have to pay to work for them & many flying hours you have logged, I’d rather trust an ex USAF pilot to fly me around than some clown @ Ryanair or Lion Air that paid to get their job…!

UK licences can be checked on approval from the licence holder.
However, a foreign licence can’t be checked too easily. It can only be visibly checked.
It’s very easy to get a foreign licence with C+E entilements without every sitting in a lorry. This isn’t by paying bribes. It’s by having a UK car licence, filling in a couple of forms and declaring what you’re entitled to drive. You then get your nice shiny new foreign licence and send it to dvla and get a full UK one with whatever entitlements you asked for.
So, no matter how many checks an employer does, he will never be 100% sure.

That de Caprio films was one of the best I’d seen for a long time.He didn’t give a **** and just studied - studied - studied.Airline pilot,Doctor in the end " poacher turned gamekeeper " for the FBI. :sunglasses:

yes I agree, great film

he never actuallly flew a plane, just sat in as a third man, behind the co-pilot and pilot

but agreed its a great film. but the book is even better

I can imagine its fairly easy to get away with it in honesty. Now i must add it isnt something i would do, i wouldnt have the balls in honesty!!! But when i was on agency they did a DVLA license check and it came back clear as expected… One of the companys that i was working for asked to see my license monthly. I guess if i got banned but kept my license (the psyical parts) i would get away with it as they cant do checks without your permission.

To be honest i expect there is more than likely a good few drivers out there that are doing that…

A previous job on agency too never asked to even see my license when i turned up and worked for them!!

It would be difficult to get a job with a fake license, but to retain your job while you have been banned i would think was pretty easy unless im missing something obvious!

I’d imagine it’d be pretty simple, got sent to pick up a vehicle from a rental company the other day, scribbled a signature and off I went without them ever checking to see if I had a license. Could this be normal practice? If so I could see it being pretty simple getting away without it.

Seen it on an episode of motorway cops or one of those types of shows where VOSA pulled an artic and he didn’t even have a car license.

I think the agencies are pretty poor at checking licences.

This particular ‘driver’ sticks in my mind for some reason:

He was released on life licence in October 2003 and is liable to be called back to prison at any time.
He later assumed another man’s identity, arranging for his driving licence to be renewed with his own picture, to obtain work as a lorry driver.

Don’t be frightened by the photograph!

In the film hes says near the end the only one he didnt fake was the medical exam for his doctors ticket!!!

There was a time that people didn’t need a licence to drive a vehicle, fly a plane, or drive plant.
Did it make them dangerous? No it didn’t and it still dosn’t.
Like its been said, I’d prefer an ex USAF pilot that hasn’t bothered to get the right ticket to fly me around, Rather than someone that has paid all the ridiculously high fees but has no experience. The same will come with the Dcpc, I’ll be classed as a danger to other road users for failing to obey the regulations. It dosn’t really matter that i’ve driven god knows how many miles accident free for such a long time.
