I’m bowing to your years of experiance and got a quick question for you lot. I got my level D a year or so ago so i could drive airfreight around (nice clean drops to airports genrally ).
I got it through an agency but i did pay for it myself, since then i’ve moved to another agency that gets me more regular work but have recently got the oppertunity for perm work using my level D. I was asked to show my training records as all i have is my card i got with it and certificte.
Apparently the agency i was with before has them but getting them is like blood from a stone. They say as i got it with them or should i say when i was with them i can only use it working for them. Just wanted to know if this was true or if it was just fibbing? As i payed for my course myself with a training company that isn’t tied with the agency.
Hi. Never dealt specifically with level D though I know all about it. As a general rule, I would expect you to have full possession of any training documents that have been issued to you that you have paid for.
I would also expect an employer to hold on to any training records that they had paid for. This would probably be for an agreed length of time.
From what you say, I would go and kick ■■■!! Unless someone can explain why the principle doesn’t apply in this case. Pete
Strangely enough, I am just making some enquiries to see if they are transferable, my buddy and his friend are here now, they both did Level D about 9 months ago and are asking the same question. as both have been offered some work in another companies export warehouse. The question is, are the certificates geographic or personal?
I know when I left DHL my Level 4 was not valid anywhere else, nor was my CRB / Disclosures check
I just got the answer from the shipper, the certificates and training records are personal, although these are held in the safe at the company that arranged them, that is part of the difference between Level 4 and Level D, well that and the fact, they don’t use live Semtex on Level 4
So yes, go and kick some arses at the agency, they are definitely yours, never mind who paid for them!

Here’s one possibility:
In most cases of applying for employment, a certificate issued by an awarding body will be regarded as as sufficient evidence of training, but it’s perfectly possible that the additional records of training are held by the provider and/or awarding body for at least the duration of the certificate as part of a QA system.
