Let the panic begin!

Juddian:
I’m looking forward to it, gunna be interesting seeing how the race to the bottom or lowest common denominator (whichever is the case in your own particular yard) pans out, wonder how many sickies will be pulled when there’s 8" of snow on the road when they wake up.

Reminds me when I was on a local daywork contract with a haulier, no more than 25 miles from base and they wanted me to drive over 140 miles when heavy snow was forecast, till I pointed out I couldn’t potentially risk being away from home for two or three days and certainly not in a bloody day cab - no way.!!!

Our infrastructure always seems to fall apart at the seams when the white stuff falls, but I don’t want to be part of the chaos that ensues. Rather be at home with a cupboard full of food and watch it on the news instead.

C’mon stop crying and put a set of winter tires :grimacing:
UK winter is probably a lot easier then most of Europe anyway.

that’s probably right, driving-wise

I think I’m a long way off yet needing to dig out the winter Conti’s and stick em on the VW smoke machine

well it would be if the councils got their act together, off the motorways/main trunk roads you’re pretty much on your own :unamused:

Same round here this afternoon.

Bet they run out of salt later in the year when it really gets bad, and then use it as an excuse to hike your council tax…

They might be doing their dummy runs and driver training.

Only reason I say this, is because in early September, South Lanarkshire council gritters were out. It was sunny and warm and I was very confused as to why they were putting salt down. Couple of days later I found out it was the dummy runs for route and vehicle familiarisation.

On a few sites, I have seen predictions that this is going to be one of the harshest winters for a while, with up to thirty days of snow forecast. As to whether they can actually predict weather that far ahead, is anyone’s guess, but it been a while since we have had real heavy snow - in England at least.

This is the one scenario where agency drivers will have a distinct advantage over company drivers. They can always hit the ‘not available’ button if it gets too bad out there… :sunglasses:

Wait for the high winds! The employed drivers on deckers pull sickies, whilst the independent drivers just get on with the job!
