Has anybody thought about the cold weather and the possibility of freezing water.
The IBC’s could burst if they freeze so a substantial amount of Anti-freeze will be required. :open_mouth:

I have been informed if filled to the 1000 litre mark there will be room for expansion.

Let’s hope so.

There’s more than one way to skin this particular rabbit. We’ll all do what we think is best and we’ll be happy with that.

Whilst this thread is interesting (we all want to know what the other bloke’s up to!) I hope it doesn’t lead to suggestions that a selection of trainers - who are all experienced drivers - need assistance in how to load a truck!! I repeat my quote above.

Pete

Funny you should say that Pete - one of my Instructors had that exact question asked of him this week - does make you wonder

It wouldn’t surprise me if some didn’t get it badly wrong- both axle weight and stability

John

Done it filled the Iveco and trailer up with 8t of water. Started with the trailer with 3t right over the dual axles then went to yard to drop trailer off then back to fire hydrant to fill the truck up.

Was very impressed with cat c handling. No problems at all. Perhaps increase revs by 100rpm before changing up but still within the green band.

When I returned to the yard the poor trailer had tipped backwards. The coupling eye was staring at the clouds. I could push it back down with 1 hand it was on the point of balance. Tomorrow need to move the 3 buggers forward a foot.

All good fun but all fears have dissolved. Roll on the next student.

Could of put your wallet on the front of trailer John. Lol!

LOL Paul that would have made it tip back more. I proper love this game

All sorted moved the 3 IBC"s forward 6 inches and that alongside the fact that the towing eye is now naturally lower due to 5 tonne in the truck and everything is stable.

Went to the weighbridge. Axle 1 is 250kg within limits and axle 2 has 1400kgs spare. Spent a couple of hours testing tricky spots around Chelmsford test routes. Without the trailer there is very little handling difference except possibly use 4 low range instead of 5th for L/R turns. The added weight greatly increases the forward momentum force so coming off the accelerator earlier will save some fuel without sacrificing performance.

With the trailer building up speed takes considerably longer. A point I will make to the examiners. However as CE candidates are naturally at a higher standard I don’t foresee too many issues A lower gear for hill starts obviously.

I would like to thank the other trainers for their help in this matter especially where they have sent PM"s covering certain points.

I was always concerned about training in high winds with being empty, at least now these concerns have been elevated.

Also more traction in snowy conditions.

Happy Days!
