At what level does grit become obsolete. (Your thought’s). The sort that fly’s out the back of the ahmm salt trucks . I have always known them to be called gritters.
Id say grit is obsolete with any snow as it lays on top. All it’s good for is mixing with salt for lowering the freezing point of water to prevent ice.

Grit might as well put ball bearings down if you mean rock salt don’t know as I think it depends on the type and spread but if you don’t get a good base of it down with it breaking up then there’s no point
