I am not a badge of honour,
I am not a racist smear,
I am not a fashion statement,
To be worn but once a year,
I am not glorification
Of conflict or of war.
I am not a paper ornament
A token,
I am more.
I am a loving memory,
Of a father or a son,
A permanent reminder
Of each and every one.
Im paper or enamel
I’m old or shining new,
I’m a way of saying thank you,
To every one of you.
I am a simple poppy
A Reminder to you all,
That courage faith and honour,
Will stand where heroes fall.
Wear your Poppy with pride
The official remembrance day song. Incredibly powerfull, incredibly moving too. The Furys also did a version of this song.
Everytime I pass one of those Help for Heroes tables at services I always empty whatever change I have in my wallet into their buckets.
good for you radar19 , but its a crying bloody shame that you have to . these men and women should not have to depend on charity. meanwhile the powers that be give millions (if not billions ) to foreign countries , at least one of which can afford a space programme.

Yup, agree with that, But it’ll never change unfortunately. If we leave the EU then maybe, just maybe things could change and I firmly believe it would be a good move for us to do that.
Back on topic though, and I will be sparing many thoughts for the sacrifices of those who fought for peace, and those who still do.
Brothers in arms.

Its quite a jazzy version of Eric Bogles anti war song that. I notice how they have left out his final verse(s). Which basically says its all a waste of time. A perverse song choice then cleverley manipulated for its emotional content.
Yeah you’re right Mike. Not heard the version you refer to, but I have heard the Furys one and it is very firmly an anti-war song. I suppose that given the cause though they opted for non controversial.
as I sat eating my greggs pasty at lymm yesterday I got to thinking about the poppy sellers themselves, I went back to greggs and bought a tea and doughnut for the old guy selling poppies. instead of siting on my own in the cab I took the time to have a chat with him and the banter was good, making it a thing for this week that whenever I am stopped and I see poppy sellers and will buy them a brew and ask how things are.
All the poppies from the tower of london are going to be stored in our warehouse.
We are then taking them to be individually cleaned and pakaged…and then onward to the company that is disributing them.
These poppies have been bought by people from all over the world,so it’s quite an honour to play a small part in the process
Went down Tower Hill today and the view to the Tower is all hoarded off. Is this because…■■?
A) the folks trying to see were getting about 6 deep into the left hand lane? (Was properly chocka last week, but the sun was cracking the flags)
Or…
B) they don’t want the general public having a nosey, when the powers that be can charge them to come in behind the hoardings to have a look?
Idle questions - do the Germans have a poppy/rememberance day equivalent?
Does Angela lay a wreath in Oradour-sur-Glane? If not, why not?
Does Russia have an equivalent ceremonial day?
Does Croatia give a ■■■■ either way?
Jus` wondering…
I used to think that there shouldn’t be a need for any charity organisations in the country, then got talking to s lifeboat man in the pub one day. Hr surprised me when he said that he wouldn’t want the rnli publicly funded - his reason being that as they are, they can buy the best of kit, and organise the way hey see ad being best. If they were government funded, corners would be cut, budgets would ensure the cheapest kit had to be bought etc. Made me wonder whether we’re often better off the way its done now?

A couple of versions of an appropriate tune for today, O Valiant Hearts.
