Lenham Storage info

Anyone work for them able to provide the usual info with regards to wages and hours etc?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Andi
Hope you’re not still in Cardiff it’ll be a trek to commute there and back.
They’ve got 2 depots a satelite depot near Andover, the main one is in Lenham Kent
It’s a nice family run business and as the name suggests they earn most of their money from storage, they’ve recently upgraded the main site, with more building to go up in the future.
I work for the Lenham depot, through my agency, can’t actually quote there pay, but I don’t hear any of their drivers complain about the conditions there ( well only the usual banter )
They’ve got a good modern fleet of 24t rigids and artics
Work isn’t too hard, they’ve got some very good contracts, Waitrose being one of them Some of the cash and carry’s they deliver to can be a bit of a pain, waiting time etc., but on the whole I think they’re a good firm to work for. They do a fair bit of night trunks, for various contracts, all over the UK, RDC work, nights out for drivers delivering in the north.
If you are interested in working there give them a call, not sure if they are actually looking for drivers at the moment though, worth a try

Cheers for the info!

Living in Weavering and seen that they were advertising for drivers in Lenham. Will give them a little tinkle tomorrow to see what the score is! Have not heard anything negative about them which is always a bonus!

i’ve worked for them for years and must admit it’s the best job I’ve ever had and will never leave. main problem is getting loaded and out yard sometimes as there are so many trailers to cross dock over night, but once you get paperwork that’s it. none of this “WHERE ARE YOU?” crap. I’m probably biased as I’m on nights and the planners are A1. We do about 18 night trunks with some RDC work thrown in as well. We supply every waitrose store in the country with loo rolls and crisps, most of which is done on days with ridgids and urbans. Elddis and fitzmaurice carriers do the north, Scotland and East Anglia. That’s all night trunked to them. Can’t comment too much on days, but one ball ache according to drivers is having to collect all the waste cardboard from waitrose shops and move it about lorry/trailer all day. Not many leave, and of them, many come back. There are no hard feelings, and if you went on good terms your job will generally still be there for you. It’s a family run outfit with the owners calling you by your first name and stopping for a chat if they bump into you. All in all I would say better than most haulage companies for attitude from office/managers. And NO, I’m NOT the owner!!!

i did a lot of work for them in andover years ago. they were one of my favoured assignments from the agency and pretty much left you to get on with the work they gave you. none of this nonsense where they are on the phone every 5 minutes asking when you will get to this customer or that customer or back to the yard etc. pretty informal and they were happy as long as you grafted and did your job

Worked with them years ago at lenham money was ok anualised hours my only issue was the cueing at the end of the day for a debreifing re returns ect but you planed your own rout and they left you to it trucks well looked after all in all was a good job and nice people to work with (i say with as oposed to for as you fely part of a team )

Cheers for all the info lads!

Lenham storage  ye if ya get kin joke outfit they advertise every 3 weeks in the local kent rags so tells its own story nuff said.

last time i spoke to one of their drivers he told me they were paid about £8 an hour for class 1,wether its true or not i do not know

I used to go there about once a forthnight many years back, they were quite well paid compared to the rest of the country but situations change, I know they were a good bunch of guys (as long as you didn’t try and con them).

In the old days, they paid well and treated you badly. Nowdays, they pay poorly, but treat you better.

Sorry bud, ‘good treatment’ starts in my pay packet - not £8.10 day rate. :imp:

To be fair they’ve never paid well but I wouldn’t say you was treat badly either.

I’m going back to the mid 90’s when I was only on my second day there in my RM holidays, and got asked, nay, was ordered to use an unroadworthy vehicle. I mean seriously unroadworthy. Broken rather than blown lights, bald tyre, crack leaf spring, wheel nuts missing, and other such MOT “instant fail” stuff. I think they expected me to night out in it as well, despite it being a rigid with no heater or bunk. (I would have refused to use it for just those last two points, even if MOT wise it had been OK)

Anway, I asked for an alternative vehicle to solve all the issues, and was sent home without pay on the spot. TM’s phone call with the agency guvnor, a friend of TM, and I was struck off their books for all other work as well. :imp:

You didn’t know the circumstances, so I’ve made them plain. I say I was treated badly, although I understand that LS have now cleaned up their act since opening the depot at Alyesford.

‘…Lenham … Anyone … provide … info …’

I had one of their rigids ■■■■ me in a Hertfordshire yard about a year ago when I was tipping: Dunno what happened to him.

I worked there full time in the late 90s so I do have a bit of an idea of what they used to be like thanks

Some people I used to work with still work there now so I have an idea of what their like now as well!

You’ll know the agency of whom I speak as well then… The one that seems to specialise in carting pig swill about last time I looked, among other mucky farmyard stuff. I wonder if they’ve cleaned up their act as well, as the villains involved in all this were old enough in the mid 90’s to all be gone one way or another by now.
Anyway, I’ve got no intention of working out of Lenham, since the Aylesford depot is a lot easier for me to get to. Not getting expenses, I really don’t want to have to “pay to go to work”, so as yet I’ve not worked out of the Aylesford site. It always amazes me that after I come straight out and tell agencies that I’m motivated by the money firstmost, I’ll still be phoned and offered work I’ve already excluded on the grounds of “too far” or “too low”.

Winseer, Lenham Storage have no vehicles based at Aylesford, it is purely storage and warehousing there.
The only places where the vehicles are based is at the Lenham site and down in Weyhill, near Andover.

I didn’t know that. Comes from never having actually been there.
Shan’t be going there at all now then, since they’ll not match the £12ph I’d need for commuting to Ashford neighbourhood and all. :smiling_imp:
An Ashford agency I’d signed up with over a year ago never gave me a single shift, and I hadn’t even told them “I’d rather not at LS if you don’t mind”. They can’t have had any other work I presume…
They had put me on Umbrella as mandatory to get signed up, so I said at the time I’d need the extra £1 per hour they talked off to make it worth my while… That is, £1ph extra on my base £12ph for commuting down there.

They could have had me working in Aylesford - I’d have done that for £10ph - IF they’d actually had any clients on their books by the looks of it!
I’m amazed that more agencies don’t go bust every year looking at the way they just don’t have any clients… Cutthroat competition doesn’t seem to be the problem - lack of work does! :unamused:
