Hi i’am brand new too the industry, i’ve just passed my class 2 and i’am waiting on my D’Tacho too start me new career, i’ve recieved my license back but my cat c is only valid till 2018 ? bit concerned as i cant find an explanation for this ? mind i did notice my photo is due on the same date are the two linked as all my other cat’s are still valid till 2037 ( A,B,C1 ) or am i being a bit daft ?

AFAIK it’s valid until your photo runs out or your medical runs out which comes first

The photo on your licence is valid for 10 years and the LGV D4 medical is valid for a max of 5 years but if the photo is still within its 10 years when the next medical is done they will not require a new one
As you will be age 70 in 2037 then you were born in 1967 so now you are about age 45/46 which means when you are age 50/51 in 2018 a new D4 medical will be needed
The DVLA in their wisdom date the photo the same as the D4 medical for some weird reason - I did ask why but can never get a straight answer to that - one did say that its because that is when the licence has to be sent in again - right!!
This fools those age under 45 more because new rules means they have to do a self assessment medical every 5 years so they get the same 5 year thing on their licences
