Leisure Batteries

Following a flat battery after being parked up for 15 hours this week, my mind started to wander to thoughts of fitting a leisure battery to run my 12v compressor fridge when I’m parked up.
Problem is charging it up again when on the move.

I’m fairly familiar with the split charging systems as used by caravans. etc, but they depend on the car alternator to supply the regulated charge for the leisure battery.

Am I right in thinking simply connecting the 12v from a dropper would not be the right solution?

There are two ways to achieve the desired charge cycle.

  1. Charger that runs off 24v or 12v on the input. (I’ve not found any).
  2. Mains charger running through an inverter.

I’ve searched the forums. but not come across this particular scenario.

Can anyone help?

TIA

Pete

get yr wagon batteries checked?used to leave my fridge on if i got home in the week n wagon always fired up nxt morning ok?
either that or start her up for 10 mins after a cple o hrs

This has happened to me, I didn’t remember to switch off the night-heater!?

I din’t think the night heater would run a battery completely flat?

It can do, as I found out, luckily truck was in the yard!!!

Your sure it was the fridge? get batteries tested, and if sat in truck for a while fire her up every so often…

You mean charge the batteries from a charger plugged into the ■■■ socket?

Isn’t that like robbing peter to pay paul?

Seems like it, but the 12v feed needs to be regulated. And it’s charging a seperate battery, but only when the engine is running.

Wife can’t understand why I’m laughing.

Batteries checked and all OK.

Im making up a short break so taking 66 hours this weekend, the truck is parked up, the fridge is running, and if it doesnt start, you lot will be the first to know, not happened yet though, but the laptop charger takes a lot of power if i dont run the motor.

If your batteries are ok, then I suggest binning the fridge.
