Legal or illegal fuel

i was thinking, again.
would adding 20 litres of diesel with 200 litres of methanol be legal road fuel?
i’m quite sure it would be classed as bio diesel.

Anything can be a legal road fuel, if you pay the duty on it

i think you can make 1500 litres per year for your own use duty free.

Only if it’s Bio, thats based on organic oil rather than mineral oil.

methanol is a bio fuel.
it’s known as methyl alcohol, wood alcohol, wood naphtha or wood spirit.
it’s an alcohol, but not drinkable like ethanol.

Methanol isn’t bio fuel & if you mix it with derv it will attatch its self to certain components of the diesel & settle to the bottom, it won’t mix & the ‘compression self ignition’ temp’ is much higher than diesel so your engine won’t run on it, this is why if you fill your diesel car with petrol it wont run. Petrol needs a much higher temp to ‘self ignite’ than diesel & Methanol has a self ignite temp closer to that of petrol than diesel.

Hope this helps.

Ross.

PS It’s also illegal as ANY fuel in your tank should have duty paid before you put it in.

You can make and use/sell 2500 litres of bio-diesel before duty needs to be paid, you must however make and keep simple records.

Can’t be arsed finding the link!

I cant be arsed either, but this might work…
