Left Handers

I am left handed and i believe that this enables me to be more comfortable driving both my lorry and my car. I use my left hand to change gears , put the handbrake on , indicate , press switches on dash boards and so on. I only use my right hand for steering. During the summer i went abroad for a holiday and hired a car and drove on the left hand side , i had to use my right hand and i could not get the co-ordination right…two days later the car went back.

Do you right handers have the same difficulties initially when you first take up driving when you have to use your " wrong " hand

Nope, but I had the same problem with driving left hookers as you did.

After 7 years of driving left hookers exclusively, I then had the same problem when I started driving right hookers again.

I nip over the water a few times per year for hols, always hire a car and never have any trouble with my co-ordination when driving.

I have however nearly turned down the wrong side of the road when turning right at a major junction, seeing the headlights encouraged me to continue straight on and find an alternative route

the first time I went abroad (Germany) my brother in law gave me a drive of his lhd car , I went to change gear and almost opened the door

I too am left handed and as my left hand is so busy driving I just can’t get the hang of picking my nose right handed…

Dont know what you are on about, I served in Germany and was in lhd and rhd many times per day and NEVER had a problem with either.

Am I unique ?

Absolutely the gearshift side was always the main issue in the case of driving lhd vehicles in my case although it’s more just a case of not ideal rather than undriveable. It’s always better to have the gear shift on the same side as the side which we’re biologically handed.Which must make left hand gear shifts more awkward for right handed people than right hand ones being a biological fact just like in the case of writing.

I am left handed so obviously more intelligent than the majority, :stuck_out_tongue: and have swapped from left to right hand drive and back again without a problem. The only lorry I have had a gearchange problem with is a 111 Scania which were never designed to be cack handed.

Left handed is sinister !

Hiya i think more drivers will know what your talking about if you say…LEFT ■■■■■■…just trying to help.
