I got distracted with the usual Friday madness, pretty sure card is still in, but honestly dont think I put it on rest as had intended to take it out.
So do I just do a print out off the vu and my card in the morning and record that I failed to change mode ■■ had a couple of beers so would normally go back and fetch it - but … dont want to risk my licence.
I’m not sure how this will affect you as you’re working for a family business, but usually I would suggest making two printouts and writing an explanation of both of them, so you can hand one in when the card is downloaded and keep one with you in case you get stopped.
As said it shouldn’t be a big deal as long as you don’t make a habit of it
Though I would like to be there when you tell your father, sounds like that could be fun for everyone except you
a driver at maritime did this over a weekend a couple of years ago when he got into work on monday and realised they sent him home until tuesday so he could show a 24hr break weather its right or wrong i dont know but maritime said vosa could argue that he had not had a break and had been working all weekend in the yard
10-4 good buddy:
a driver at maritime did this over a weekend a couple of years ago when he got into work on monday and realised they sent him home until tuesday so he could show a 24hr break weather its right or wrong i dont know but maritime said vosa could argue that he had not had a break and had been working all weekend in the yard
Another example of operators being worse to their own staff than VOSA. Any officer seeing an unbroken period of ‘work’ between genuine taco activity will realise it’s because a card has been left in. The driver has had a break and the records aspect is covered by making a print-out manual entry. If the company was that concerned they should have sent the driver to work with a letter confirming the facts.
Just do a printout explaining that you left it on the incorrect mode, however when you start driving on Monday your tacho will pull forward the previous driving, so if you were for example at 3hrs 45 mins driving you will only be able to drive for 45 mins until your rest flashes up at you.
why do folk leave the card in anyway?
if you dont leave the card in this sort of thing wont happen, even if you did select the right mode what would happen if the truck was moved over the weekend without you knowing?
It should be ok, just write on printout forgot to take card out and left in wrong mode, they can see you have not moved the truck, depends on the mood of the bod that stops you or not.?

Will not say what other have told you, but will give you an idea on how to stop forgetting it, if you have a modern phone that gives you reminders set it to do just that, every Friday get the phone to remind you that you need your card, because i know for one most never forget there phones.
I did this one evening this week did a print out at start of shift stating reason and time of starting new shift and did another at the end of shift so it showed what I had done that shift and stapled them together. When it starts flashing that you need a break just press okay so it stops flashing or better yet have a 45 minute break before you start. Unfortunately for me it had four hours and twenty eight minutes driving on when I parked up the previous evening.
Get your digi tacho set to Break when the ignition is turned off…tacho centre can set it. i leave my card in full time till its downloaded.nobody else drives my truck
