So I think I have left card in all weekend and on rest as it defaults to rest with ignition off.
Do I do a manual entry tomorrow morning?
Thanks

you wont need to do a manual entry as its been on break all weekend, just carry on
Just remember to set your “Start Location”
Ok thanks for the advice.
I leave my card in every weekend, in fact I only take it out once a month to download it, the whole point of digital tachographs is to show all activity, including rest periods.
But that’s not ok if your truck is loaded and moved by the warehouse staff, as once they move it it starts your working day from then. I’ve been caught out by this so I just take it out at end of every shift.
Not really a problem, only thing is you have not set your finish point on Friday/Saturday, I don’t think you can manually change that now. I would however do a printout when you get to work on Monday and record your finish point on it, it should also allow you to verify that no one has moved your truck in your absence. If in doubt, do a printout IMHO
I wouldn’t stress over it even if you were controlled I would think any reasonable vosa bloke would accept your explanation (mind you I haven’t driven in the UK for over 10 years) just using common sense

Post crossed with Andrew who is on the same thinking as me, do a printout and note anything you may not have done if that makes sense

This is true, but then again the warehouse staff shouldn’t be moving the truck unless they have their own digicards, and have removed yours and inserted theirs before they move the truck.
Anything else results in “missing mileage” and while DVSA are not as enthusiastic about this as foreign enforcement authorities, there’s no guarantee that they won’t start taking an interest in this in the future. I know somebody who was heavily fined in Spain because the bloke who washed his truck at the weekend moved it maybe 20 yards without a card in.

And MMTM that he was fined for not having his landing legs wound all the way up, while the wagon was parked in the yard over the weekend, and he was at home on his weekly rest. He reckons someone saw it on Google Earth and tipped off DVSA. They got a special dispensation from the courts and they got the SAS to break into the yard after sealing off the area for a 5 mile radius…

Somebody I worked for for 11 years and who I’ve known personally for over 25 years.
Your turn.
What is the procedure for trucks being moved once the driver takes his card out? invariably this is done on private land and thus out of scope for EU or GB regs? might as well go back to the log book.
Hope I don’t get my collar felt by the Gendarmes or the Douane on monday as I know that when I signed off thusday lunchtime that another driver used the lorry Friday afternoon and the mechanic was going to service it on Friday. My colleague regularly signs his card off while emptying the tipper and then parks up and the mechanic doesn’t need to use his card to move the vehicle into the workshop as it is off the highway.
I am sure that most sesible inspectors will see that it is yards/mtres unaccounted for not Kms
We have this moving a truck I our yard without the card in it, and also when it goes for inspections. I asked vosa about this (and many other things) when I attended a seminar for new operators. They said they understood that trucks get moved round yards and workshops and provided it only minimal distances they aren’t going to worry.
The foreign authorities might be different, but having had a check in Spain last week, they only downloaded my card not the tacho head, I was a concerned when he walked back with his laptop, but it was only to ask about the missing days and I had letters of attestation to cover them. I don’t even think he was that bothered about checking once he’d seen I’d got them.
I believe Harry Monk. I know what some areas of Spain can be like with telephone number sized court deposits to be paid in full at the road side.
Catalan area has the Moses enforcement.
Basque area has a reputation.
Then the Guardia Civil.
I have seen the Basque fine a Portuguese haulier a few grand for his orange rear reflectors on the trailer not being bright enough.
Any days missing they want to see an attestation activity letter. The fine paid can be contested later at court.
But nobody bothers due to getting time off work and the language barrier.
Plus the costs if you do not win the case.
