Leeds to Barnstable

Evening all , I’m looking for a bit of info regarding the title above . I’m travelling from Leeds to Barnstable on Friday the 12th in a car with 4 females and I’ve never been down that way before so if you can give me the best route and maybe somewhere decent to stop for a bite to eat I’d appreciate it. We’ll be leaving leeds about 10am thanks

How far before you want to stop? Gloucester services on M5 is good but pricey.

As for Barnstaple it’s easy to get to just follow A361 from M5. Some dual carriageway some single carriageway some twisty bits but it’s fine.

M1, M42, M5 then A361. Not really a lot of choices. You could go M62, M60, M6, M5 which is about same distance wise but personally I’d avoid the M6 because there’s a smash between J14-18 every day of the week with a Y in it plus holdups around M6/M5 split junctions.

Stopping wise Gloucester Services is a fantastic MSA, shame they’re not all like it. Far better food and facilities overall than your average services.

m1,m42,m5,junc 27 a 361 all the way into Barnstaple.

you should hit j11 of the a42/m42 about midday, come off there follow a444 for Nuneaton 2 mins on right Appleby inn great food and nice setting…

As Conor says routes wise, …but Msa for food are you having a giraffe? :open_mouth:
Ok Gloucs maybe better than others, but let’s be honest…that would not take much effort.

Depending on how fussy your 4 female companions are ( who do or don’t mind sitting with a load of truckers  )
Wychbold Cafe M5J5 A38,.
or if more refined tastes…
The Wych Way Inn Wychbold WR9 7PA same junction.
Both good eating places.

MSAs for coffee, khazi, or showers only in my book, :sunglasses:
Not for overnight parking…and certainly not for meals. :open_mouth:

And when you come off M5 for Barnstaple on the S.West link road, there is a Maccy Ds for a coffee and a breather, 1 minute off the first Tiverton junction (signed for Howden ind est) left next r/about left, on rh.side.

Thank you for your help lads very much appreciated, I’ll see how we get along we might do it in one go I’ll play it by ear . Thanks gain

you really shouldn’t try it in one hit mate, you’ve two major pinch points on the main route most have advised (brum
and Bristol) minimum 6 hr drive, I would advise at least two 20 min breaks. good luck.

You’re probably right it is a long drive , I’m sure the ladies would be glad of a break thanks again

I dunno. I’ve had ladies in my car and kept them locked in for hours and they seemed fine with it.

Don’t need carpet now days I’ve heard about something called ryhipnol, couple drops in their Costa.

I really worry about some of you lot on here… :unamused:

If you wanted. There is a Toby Carvery just off m5 j 25 at Taunton. Less than a minute off the motorway.

4 females in the car? A1, A14, M11, M3, A303…
