You could say the same for the fossil fuel side of things, Big oil get a whopping £17.5 billion in subsidies per year. The government has announced today an investment of £1.3 billion into electric car/infrastructure grants. Government invests £1.3bn into Electric Car Grant
Plug in hybrid is an exception proving rules.I’d like to replace the Touran with a Tuareg R.Use electric for local shopping runs and nice big 3.0 litre 6 cylinder for longer trips and 465 hp combined electric and petrol for autobahn fun.
Just need an hour, a straight edge, chalk and an electric drill with a 20mm wood bit!
(Damn, there’s me using electric as a positive
)
When places first starting installing chargers they were at front of the buildings basically taking out disabled bays .
Govement got involved said disabled bays need be near the building you can’t use them for charging points.
So now there further away mainly in truck coach parking areas as easier to do. Rather than take out parking spaces close car parks while being installed just take out a few truck spaces
swissport at Manchester airport have recently moved into new premises. In there car park there must be at a guess a dozen charging posts with a cable on each side so 24 or so charging points.
God knows why ok some managers probably have big electric company cars .
But vast majority of swissport warehouse workers in general could never afford an electric car
E-trailers look like they’re going to be a big thing in the not too distant future, regardless of whether it’s pulled by a diesel unit or e-truck.
“When paired with a diesel tractor unit, the electrified trailer is reported to cut fuel consumption by up to 40%. When combined with electric tractor units, eTrailers could extend their range from approximately 400 to 700 kilometres. These claims are supported by extensive real-world tests,”
My first thought was can you shunt them about the yard like a caravan with those electric mover things. Obs with casters on the legs!
To be fair not a bad idea. Strap a few solar panels to roof of the trailer charge them up while driving around.
I can’t see it mentioned in the article, but if it has regenerative braking then that’ll save brakes on unit and trailer and get some recharge for free.
Budget 2025 confirms pay-per-mile road tax will begin in April 2028, charging electric cars £0.03 per mile and plug-in hybrids £0.015 per mile,
This supposedly to offset costs for upkeep of roads etc which very soon some stats moron will be pointing out that the damage is caused by HGVs and a similar higher charge should be paid by leccy trucks.
If they’re achieving those kinds of savings on diesel using one of these e-trailers, it will keep the Greta’s in Brussels off the diesel trucks a bit longer.
No, I saw no mention of regen or onboard battery pack size, it would be criminal to miss out on all that regen that a loaded trailer would produce.
That should increase the number and cost of bridge strikes!
Wouldn’t fancy having that set up under a petrol tanker. ![]()
Not if the panels were built into the roof itself, granted you lose a little height inside the trailer, how many loads actually go all the way up to the roof, any loaded trailer I’ve seen always has up to a 12” gap at the top. ![]()
I don’t know what’s happened to the Electric Truckers YT English Channel, He’s not put up a vid in over a month, His native German channel are still showing new vids from him but if you use the YT translator option it’s hard to follow as he speaks too bloody fast.
Chinese truck manufacturer SuperPanther is expanding into Europe with it’s e-Topas600 electric truck. I haven’t come across this truck before.
It will be manufactured in Austria by Steyr automotive & start series production in early 2026. It will also build out it’s own high-powered charging infrastructure across Europe too.
Looks like a keedwell lorry
Can’t wait when Scania start to introduce electric trucks ![]()
Will the V8 become 8V(olt)! ![]()
