When I worked on fridges our lot never bothered trying to buy red once the rules changed, it was just too difficult and there were too many hoops to jump through. They merely renewed the trailer fleet for ones with engines that were massively more fuel efficient l
A rogue haulage operator could have a 2000 to 3000 litre storage tank in their yard or on agricultural land then fill the lorries from the tank.
Yep. Yearsleys did the same. Still have the pumps saying trailer only like but all the same stuff.
Yeah, as far as I know all the big fridge operators did the same. It just wasnāt worth the hassle.
Thereās a big gap from Lancashire up to the Glasgow area for these HGV freight charging hub sites, does this mean owt going north from Lancashire to Scotland will be on the railways.
nah!
It means that itās already been decided that Haggisland is gonna leave the union. No more cross border freight.
That Iveco S-eway loaded, cruises uphill without a sweat & recoups 580kw in regeneration going down the other side of the hill.
Electric trucker is finding some downsides with the new Iveco S-way in that it doesnāt have a stand-alone cab heater, There is a ācamping/hotel modeā in the infotainment system, but the software hasnāt been set up for it just yet.
You can leave it switched on in āready modeā to use the heater/fan, but the trouble with that is the lights stay on & you have to lower the air suspension fully to stop the air compressor kicking in.
The charging sites there are chaotic at times as shown in this episode.
Just heard a report that Chinese EV manufacturer BYD (?) have announced that from next month in this country they are unveiling a public charger that can fully charge one of their vehicles from empty to 100% in 5 minutes!
As you may have guessed I am no fan of EVās for various reasons, but even I have to admit that is seriously impressive.
Edit to add; itās not the chargers that are responsible for the fast charging, itās the vehicles battery itself that facilitates this.
Yeah I read about that, Their new blade battery chemistry & the new BYD 10C chargers can charge at a speed of 1MW for cars , I read it puts 2km/second into the battery pack at optimum pack temps. Incredible.
Theyāve just upgraded their flagship models āTangā & āHanā which are a 7 seater family SUV & saloon car respectively & both can do the 0-100km in the 3-second range. Crazy.
I aint up on all this stuff by any meansā¦
But is it not the fact that if you charge a battery up fast all the time that it makes it wear out faster?
I was told that about mobile phones, which I have never forgottenā¦but bear in mind I have had a mobile since 1985 one of thr first ones, so maybe things have changed on the battery charging score.
I know phones aint cars either but same principle of charging batteries to make them work.
The majority of EV manufacturers are now using LFP batteries (lithium iron phosphate), which can take way more charging & discharging cycles over ternary battery packs (NMC),
Yeah, it used to be the case with those early NMC packs, but the chemistry inside them seems to be changing all the time.
BYD put a video out of one of their LFP blade batteries verses a NMC battery having a drill put through it with no effect, the NMC battery burst into flames as soon as the drill punctured the pack.
BYD gives an 8-year battery pack warranty with these new LFP blade battery packs.
Ok cheers for that.
Like I said I aint really into all this stuff.
1 MW That is serious electrical power. Thatās like 45 houses all maxxing out their consumption at once with power shower, cooker, heating and truck scaletrix racing all on at the same time.
I donāt think the existing electrical network can cope with such a fast charger putting into city centres, gonna be an awful lot of tax payerās dosh needed to upgrade.
Ah! That timeline is about right for the Chevy Bolt LG Chem battery recall debacle, Iām not sure if those Volt hybrid battery packs were replaced free of charge but all the Bolt battery packs from around 2017 onwards were replaced which cost LG Chem the shirt off their back because of the manufacturing defects that caused the problems, they later ditched that trading name to distance themselves from it.
In 2022 Chevrolet tried to stiff Bolt owners by only offering a software fix instead of full replacement.
How many full 5 minutes recharges can the battery take before itās toast at the replacement cost of more than the Chinese piece of junk is worth.
You seem to be a great fan of the Communist crap hole and itās garbage products for some reason.
Either way all the cab heating on the move or parked is paid for at the meter when recharging and at the expense of range and re charging time.
It needs a camping type portable generator to run an electric fan heater when parked and nights out.
