leaving in drive

can leaving a truck in drive or reverse then switching off and leaving the vehicle cause any damage

If you do this to an renault premium or mercs axor with auto …

and they are unloaded whilst in gear the air going back to airbags means you cant select neutral to start them .

Can also happen if you got air leak .

More modern trucks auto select N when you switch off , but would advise always leave in neutral .

Obviously if its a manual theres no problem

If the truck jams in gear then grab your neighbours yellow airline and plug it into your red airline to restore the air levels in your vehicle. You should now be able to select neutral. You see, worth every penny of my grand a week.

Have you actually tried this ?

Yes, on a foreign Scania that jammed in gear outside the yard I work out of. Clearly the yellow line needs to be pressurised so on some units you may have to apply the footbrake once connected.

So was it palm couplings ?

No not on this occasion, he had converters on standard UK fittings. Wouldn’t palm couplings operate in the same manner though? never tried linking the red and yellow when I was at UPS.

Edited to add, no I don’t think this would work with palm couplings.

That’s why I asked as I didn’t think the male and female connectors were compatible. I really thought they were different sizes .

Maybe he is trying to wind people up Colin. There seems to be a few wind up merchants on here.
Are you missing out words intentionally because that really annoys me.

its not causing damage. but if Airpressure falls you may not get them into Neutral to start. (Our Renault shifts by itself into neutral when you switch Engine off)

hi all i drive Volvo’s 2013- 2016 we have been told its dangerous and could lose our jobs if we keep doing it but cant find anything definitive to indicate its dangerous find it hard to believe Volvo would overlook something most drivers do one time or another.

What would you like to know Colin?

When taking the keys out does it not beep to advice you that you have left it in gear, even my ■■■■ DAF Rigid does this  .
