Leaving card in the truck all week

Following on from a previous post ,
how many trampers leave their card in the tacho all week and has it ever caused any problems with your gaffer or VOSA, just trying to gauge what to do for the best, personally I’d prefer to leave it in, but there’s good and bad points isnt there ?

Mine stays in all month atm. Only take it out if I’m going home for weekend or need to download it at start and mid month.

Never has any issues. Not had a vosa/bag pull for a while but can’t see it been a problem tbh.

Same as that, I take it out every 28 days to download it, otherwise it stays in all the time. If you did a trip to France and you were stopped by the Police or Ministry there then you’d be deep in the doo-doo if you did take your card out at night or at the weekend because the whole point of it is to show a continuous record of your activity.

In all week. No issues.

Personally I take mine out every night. Only takes a few seconds and should you need to move your motor for some reason after you’ve booked off it saves having to mess about with printouts etc. As you are just putting in an end country not place name then unless you are stopped shortly after starting when away from base then DVSA would just presume uou were at base and someone,a shunter or fitter for example, moved your vehicle.

Mine comes out when the truck goes for service or I’m on holiday. Other than that, it doesn’t. Digi tachos are great

I just don’t understand this. Surely if you leave your card in then you don’t have to do a print-out if you move, but if you move the truck without a card in then you do?

It stays in all week  no issues :sunglasses: and it’s so simple! SCREWDRIVERS! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

got asked this by vosa yesterday when I got stopped on the A52, first question he asked me “was I away all week and do I leave my card in all week” I said I do leave it in all week and he said “great spot on” didn’t ask to see the card as they were only doing vehicle safety checks that day, still managed to get a delayed prohibition for one bloody crack in a break disc on the trailer :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Thanks for the input folks … gonna to crack on leaving my card in … now , just have to get used to this bloody MAN auto gearbox. …

I pull mine and place truck on rest when on a night out. I only do 2 nights a week

If on nights out take card out but only out now and again

When I’m away in the truck the card stays in, on a weekly break now and the card is still in, the only thing I do is put and start and end country, its easier and quicker than taking the card out each night, and as Harry says in euroland they expect to see a continuous record of activity.

Shouldn’t do that though Micky, you are supposed to record your rest period as well as your driving, that’s the whole point of digital tachos.

Only just off distance work but I always used to take my card out when starting my rest. I think for me it’s habit going back to the old paper discs, I even leave my card in front of the dials as I did with a new paper disc

Funny thing though, got a pull from VOSA around July on the M25 and a traffic cop there asked me why I pulled the card but it wasn’t an issue. Just down to your own personal preference I guess.
