Morning everyone,
I have tried searching for my answer but no luck finding anything.
I have my class 2 training booked and starting next Wednesday. I have driven a few of the tractor units around the yard in work on the odd occasion when its been quiet but My question is am I allowed to legally go on the road with L plates on and have a fully qualified driver in the passenger seat!?
I have no digicard so the tacho would show that on the tracking system as the truck being driven with no card in.
Thanks

If you have passed your theory and hazard perception test then yes. If not, then no.
Your company will also need to record the missing mileage on the truck as being used for training. I take it you have your provisional licence back.

You also cannot do deliveries or collections.

Yes, you can go on the road in the circumstances you mention (though not with a trailer, obviously!). Vehicles being used for driving instruction are exempt from the requirement to use a tacho. I would suggest though that this exemption would not apply if the vehicle was being moved from one location to another for operational purposes (e.g. to go and pick up a trailer from another location - even though you only drove for the “bobtail” part of the trip).
Your employer would need to ensure that the insurance covered driving by a provisional licence holder and use for driving instruction.
Thanks for your replies guys! We have no rigids so tractor unit is only way of getting extra practice in before my training starts next week! Usually only time our trucks run solo outside of the yard is when they go to the garage a few miles away for service! So no deliveres would be getting made during or after my driving of the truck!
Also the company are not paying for my class 2 training due to not having any rigids at the depot i work at!
I might just need to stick to driving in the yard until my traininf is done
