Hi All
Ok, Its Tuesday, and Day 1 of 3, with Test Friday at 10.30am, after 2 warm up hours of nerves.
Arrived 8am to sort out payment and copying licences etc,
After explaining all the MAN 63plate controls, I drove the mile or so, to the reversing practice area.
I discovered that the gearbox is way, way, different, to the 5 speed DAF LF t, that has been the bulk of my experience, along with Merc(recycled u boats) Aztecs, 8 speed with side shift range box, and splitter for every gear.
Nailed the reverse first time, all my shunting experience kicked in, and after 20 more goes, we proceeded to the roads.
Felt very similar on the road as a 7.5T, no problems with position etc, just loads of bad habits
signal manoeuvre mirror,
or, mirror, manoeuvre, signal eventually.
Have to go slower into corners, not used to crawling along, think I was trying to hard to see if I could do it all in one go,
The race is long, but we off and running
just loads of bad habits
signal manoeuvre mirror,
or, mirror, manoeuvre, signal eventually.
All the best with your training. At some point you’ll get it all in the correct order!
Pete
I hope so Peter,
Many Thanks,
Trying to do to much last minute at junctions etc, im used to coasting out and get gone, driving test standard is harder than it looks, getting rid of bad habits tomorrow is the goal
Wednesday was my day of eternal errors, even knocked bollard over in reverse exercise, we visited the test centre and bang, the knot in my stomach clenched.
Another learner had his test booked at 10.30, we waited at the centre and happily he passed.
After mounting the kerb, flapping passing parked car that pulled out on me, pulling out onto a roundabout, in wrong gear, thus making a car break, I couldn’t wait for the day to end, are nerves going to make me fail grrr, I went home annoyed with myself completely.
Thursday
Started much better, stopped trying to keep inside white lines, gears sorted, felt good for a change.
Did several test routes, and conquered tight left hander that plagued me.
My co learner passed his test, so pressure on me to do same.
Friday Dreaded Test Day.
Didn’t have to worry about oversleeping, I couldn’t sleep. So nervous as to feel sick…WHY WHY WHY AHHHH
Its not like if you fail, they lock you up or beat you with a stick.
My reverse, totally boo booed
Driving like I hadn’t been in a car let alone truck,
Sweaty palms, WHY
Even my instructor looked worried Oooer
At 10.30 the examiner, in red suit with horns and a pitch fork appeared from hell to take me out.
He shook my hand and talked, amazed, he’s human after all.
Reverse exercise, nailed perfect, WOW, I can do this.
After a hour and 20 mins we returned to the centre.
I had I thought, failed on a couple of stupid mistakes,
Mr Sheldon please wait while I fill out your report, god I failed, my heart sank,
Because he said it takes time to fill out the Pass Certificate… YEEESSSSSSSSSS
1 minor for observation
Its like a 5 ton weight off my shoulders
Bring on Class 1
