Le Tour Yorkshire

To paraphrase an old joke: “Don’t take the pee out of John Smiths - it ruins the flavour…”

on the plus side theres some lovely smooth roads around yorkshire now, i came from Ripon down to Harrogate to get over the A59 and some of the resurfacing they have been doing on the race route would put a bowling green to shame, shame they cant fix the roads to that standard for the motoring public that have to use them eveyday

Yeah, good point. They done the same for us.

Why is it such a privilege? It was meant to be a privilege to watch the olympc torch go by, but forgive me for not wasting a days’ holiday to see it. (I didn’t watch the olympics but it hasn’t ruined my life).

They do the same on the Le Tour route in France.
Which is why I try to time it right usually 2-3 days before the tour rides through, if I intend to ride certain roads in the Alps on the motorbike.
I also have deliberately got out of Yorkshire while the tour is on and headed to Spain to ride the roads there

seams like every 4 th vehical on the a1 this afternoon was french !!!. inc french yellow mc cain cars , a french tv channel minibus and a ford transit with a massive a board on it for french supermarket , i bet tosco wished they were in france now

There is a prestige about hosting the start of ‘The Tour’,
In France, if you can get your town to host Le Grande Depart then your pretty much guaranteed to become Mayor of the town at least.
Leeds beat big European cities including Barcelona to host the start this year.

Whoopie do. I’m still not excited by the prospect of it. Been dragged along to watch my brother in law doing some cycle races. Like watching paint dry…until one falls off and takes about a dozen with them. :smiling_imp:
I’m on our Manchester-Newcastle run Tuesday and Wednesday, I take it all will be normal by then?

Whoopie do for you visiting our great City …
Yes, be clear by then.

Why couldn’t they start in the ‘culture captial’ Hull and all cycle onto the ferry, stop for a swift half in Bruges, then hey presto they are in France with minimal disruption to anyone (except P&O)

I live in Perthshire where the Ryder Cup will be played. The roads around are all being upgraded and Gleneagles station has had a major upgrade.

Why is Hull the cultural capital? Any culture there??

You cant colour in any of the letters in Hull , i believe as cities go that may be fairly rare , so thats culture is it ■■

They sometimes have the," grand depart" in other countries and then they head to Framce. Don’t know why  There will be no water stations around the Yorkshire stages… It’s being replaced by John Smiths :grimacing:

They may put Machines in place where you get Water bottled for £-.50

I lived in Muthill ,you cant colour in those letters either so Hull in not unique. When Hull was bombed during the war Churchill tried to keep it secret dont know why as people couldnt tell the difference.

I’m looking forward to seeing Le Tour whizz past my flat as I live near one of the roads closed for the route, I however cannot comprehend why the roads have to be closed for 24 hours? They whizz down the road about 9.30am ish yet I cannot get out until 7pm. It’s written off the majority of my Saturday.

Nice little earner for farmers. Around Huddersfield/Holmfirth fields are getting made into camp sites and car parks.

Farms listed in local paper yesterday, charging £10 per car parking.

No doubt still be telling poverty tale next week as they load suitcases into back of Range Rover Vogue, and head to airport for couple of weeks in Caribbean!

I saw 10 of the convoy of tour trucks all wagon and drag Nobby D’s going past Tibshelf n/b last night. I’ve read there are 60 all together and what i’d like to know is where have they found the space to park all these trucks until the tour starts when they wouldn’t normally be able to find any space for a truck stop any other time? :unamused:

Harrogate.jpgApproximately 130 trucks are parking in an enclosed secure technical zone on the Stray in Harrogate were there is also temporary living accommodation for the technicians.

they were charging £70 a night to camp !!

What the hell have they got that needs to fit in 130 trucks?! It’s just a few bikes isn’t it

Speaking of rich farmers, well  I’ve been to a few Young Farmers do’s before, it was all tuxedo’s, Range Rovers and expensive drinks. Make of that what you will.
