Lazy limpers

Conor:

CHAINSAW:
I have worked agency for 15 years now and in all that time there is only one person that I would have taken a full time job from, the majority of the people that we work for are ok but the industry is full of back stabbing, money grabbing liars.

I’m doing better than you, my list has two on it but then again I’ve been doing agency a few years more.

Yeah nights for £10 an hour

If only life was that simple.

Because you have no idea what the bloke is doing . he could be breaking up a fight between his pet ferret and cat , whilst stopping his 3 year old chucking food all over the sofa and simultaneously dragging his teenage daughter off her new boyfriend . his mother in law is shouting down the stairs that she wants custard creams and ITV to sack jeremy kyle cause he is not in same league as vanessa .

After you rang all he remembers is something about 8am .

.

are you speaking from experience here ?.

I’m sorry but I knew your post would be idiotic from your fifth word ‘limper’. I apologise in advance if you’re perfect but I’d go home too if you call your ad hoc staff ‘limpers’. If they are good enough for you to book them in the first place then they are good enough to be call agency drivers etc.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to live in a distribution hotspot like you. Some of us live in very nice rural areas and lower pay is a price we have to pay not to have to put up with having to live somewhere like you do. Still if I ever do get a job there no doubt the £41,500 for 56hrs and home every night will compare to what you claim to earn.

No need to apologise, I know I’m perfect as I have never been late for a job, in fact my wife regularly complains about me being too early.

Getting the knots out of your boot laces can seem like a lifetime in a 30sec timeframe

I have to admit honked - I used to call the lads up and give them the every walk of life a few knobs spoiled it - denying a call had every been made I said 6 not 4 etc.

now everyone gets a text and they reply with either a yes / no / cant start that time whatever it may be they reply.

Best page of comments iv read on here for a while.

As for phone calls, i pretty much ignore information given out during a phonecall with agency/company etc. Txt or a e-mail only. Then i can atleast prove whos right or wrong.

Only an hour and a quarter late today. I wonder if he forgot to put his clock back in October?

Not exactly a difficult job either. Drive for an hour, open curtain while someone loads it And drive back. Rinse and repeat.
On a tough day you might have to do it three times (just like on your wedding night).

Think it may be prudent to get a migrant and put a caravan in the yard

Is it a permanent job or just covering some ones holiday?

If it’s a regular run and as easy as you make it sound, why not get in touch with some local training schools and see if any new license holders are needing immediate start and get them to come in for interview?

Holiday cover but hoping at least one full timer leaves soon

Sounds like your company is a crap company from an agency client point of view and the agency are just sending in the dross. Tends to happen with companies that are late paying their agency bills or treat the agency drivers like crap as your post has shown your attitude towards them is.

HOOOORAAAAAAHHHHHH WELL SAID THAT MAN :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Haulage Industry really should make this the number one route over the scum bag agencies!!!

So what shall I do with your application?

because despite what you may think of agencies not many people want the hassle of going company to company finding their own work week after week. great idea if its a full time role for a weeks holiday cover it not going to make sod all difference on a cv.

Almost any job which has a settled science to it, can be described as bish, bash, bosh.

The nub of your problem is the contempt with which you view other’s work, and their contribution to your operation. It’s so thinly veiled that many have already remarked on it.

You’d do better to acknowledge firstly that you are asking people to do work. Then, when you wonder why on Earth people are so loath to do any but a small dose of it, you’ll understand why: it is work.

The fact that it’s routine, repetitive work isn’t something that makes it easier or more attractive. I’d be surprised even if any schoolchild says “when I grow up, I want to sit on my own turning a wheel back and forth for 60 hours a week”.

Sometimes to make the day interesting, I pull the curtains from the back to the front.

Beats sitting in a box with a ■■■■■■■■ at an rdc.

Strange considering most (not all) limpers ask us to keep their number on file

I only dislike the lazy ones. A job is actually about doing work and doing it well, not milking it at every opportunity.

see honked this is where i get frustrated by the perm vs agency argument - the worst place I have ever worked for a job takes that long etc. was a perm role with almost no agency used.

most of the places I have gone as agency unless its an easy job or a oneoff you get the job done as quick/best as you can - therefore hopefully impressing enough to be the driver asked back.

the really crap firms I have worked at i would normally call the agency and ask to not be sent back.

i actually got banned from a place for doing a job too quick which was a first and only.

Honked is now trying to make light of his comments, but I spent years dealing with toss pots like him, contemptuous and arrogant, half a dozen old sheds and they think they are the Bees Knees, and I treated their rotten little trucks with the same contempt I was treated, never checked the oil, kerbed the tyres and screwed them round etc, if I was treated fair I ALWAYS did my best for the truck and the company and I worked for years for some, but the Honkeds of this world stuff them.

What is the problem here? Honked is simply saying that he requires a useless flap of skin for a few hours. All he requires is that the chosen limper turns up on time.
The reason that the majority of limpers are held in low esteem is because they are crap.

Some cant get out of bed. Some/most are unreliable. Some/most damage the truck. Some/most have a bad attitude.

And the majority are seeking full time permanent work. But pretend that they quite like 2 days a week and hanging around the phone. It ’ suits their lifestyle '.

Admit the truth people. For the truth shall set you free.
