Lazy drivers [Merged]

Hi how do you challenge the powers that be, regarding ce drivers that start their shift at 5am but come into work at 4.30am in order to change their days route which has been allocated to each individual, because it dosn,t suit them ie : a double or long run which means a12 and longer hour day. Meanwhile the drivers that start at the same time but come into work at 4.50 and have to take what has been rejected by said drivers. This is consistant and management have been told countless times. ITS NOT JUST ONE DRIVER as on that shift there are 7 drivers. Your thoughts please but not sarcastic replys as this is peeing the drivers that just get on withh it off THANKYOU.

If you have told management and they do nothing about it then find another job !,

Why bother with that reply it involves a few drivers

If management in depot not sorting it then either go outside depot to HQ

or those drivers getting pee’d off could as a group refuse to do a reallocated duty and tell mgt to sort it.

Or take run don’t do last drop and say wasnt my run so not staying out for longer hours without notice.

Longer it done then it becomes the defacto practice.

Try doing same for a couple of shifts, go in early and pick best ones before they get chance to.

Options are

  1. Ask why your runs have changed
  2. Speak to the bloke
3 there is a group of you so speak to the bloke as a group
  3. Go above your manager
  4. Speak to the person that is changing the runs around (the planner not the driver)
  5. Get in at 4.30 and see for yourself what happens
  6. Get in at 4.20 and pick your run

There are two sides to a story and it sounds like either you are a group of little girls or there is another group of lads winding you up that your run has been changed and mr x has been in at 4.30 to see the planner

Stop being lazy and get in at 04.20

Define ‘double’ or ‘long’ run.Does it just mean more drops.Or less drops and more driving.Or the same amount of drops combined with more driving ?.I’ve never heard of driver with any sense wanting to trade less drops and more driving for more drops and less driving. The fact that it seems to be all about a 12+ hour shift when driving time is limited to the same 9 hours suggests that the extra is all about too much time spent doing ‘other work’ in a shift not 9 hours driving ?.

Assuming that drivers ‘who just get on with it’ means they say yes to as much zb as the guvnor piles on them then tough be careful what you wish for.

It’s a dog eat dog existence now Kendon. Management won’t care as long as the work gets done. There is no answer to it, it’s just the way things are.

Kendon you’re merely tilting at windmills by complaining to management about this; as far as they’re concerned you are employed as a driver to move tat from A to B, as long as the tat gets moved they’ll not care which driver moves it. The question you should be asking is “how much is this bothering me?”, if the answer is that it’s bothering you a lot then you need to have a polite but forceful chat with the person who is actually shuffling the jobs around, if that doesn’t work you then need once again to ask yourself how much it actually bothers you and if you’re prepared to escalate the situation.

I’d happily cut my nose off to spite my face so it’d be an easy choice for me tbh.

We had a similar situation in our place a while back. I just waited until they were in the office, mentioned how much money I was making doing all these long runs and then left, leaving management to deal with the whiners as they whined they weren’t making as much money as me.

My thoughts are that you aren’t “lazy” for not wanting to work a 12+ hour day. But I guess the job will always be ■■■ for as long as there are drivers who think you are.

I replied to your double post. :unamused:
Anyhow…as I said on there…,
Either come in at 0425 and beat those guys in, or have a quiet word with them as a group, and mark their cards.
Is it just me or what?
Ok, I know I’m a bit impulsive by nature, but if anybody is seriously ■■■■ ing me about and/or taking the ■■■■, I’m right in there sorting it… I certainly would not be asking for forum advice first.

Are you office or a driver this might clear up a lot
If office then that’s another solution
If driver then that’s another problem

This is the way. Don’t get yer knickers in a knot, just sort it out. I do, and it feels a lot better than stewing over it.

I have one driving licence, and so I only drive one lorry…
If my workload is too much I’ll “discuss” that with the boss.
.
Having said that, any argument you may have about distribution of work is with your boss. If they don’t hand it out in a way that you like, and won’t listen to any comments you make, meaning you Really don’t like working for them…leave.

Good point Harry.
When I told some guys at my place that I had voluntarily asked to have my hours cut down as I was totally ■■■■■■ off with maxing out, spending little time at home all my life, and all the rest of the crap associated with this job, I would have got a similar reaction if I’d told em I was thinking of having a ■■■ change… (I ain’t btw  ).
Drivers?..Totally ■■■■ brainwashed. :unamused: , LIMITS not targets. :bulb:

If you were being singled out for unfair treatment then you could raise a formal grievance, but I would look at this another way, which is that your employer is running a first-come-first-serve system for runs which is probably not designed to victimise anyone in particular, and probably originated from a desire on the part of the office staff to be accommodating.

If management have already been approached then obviously talk alone is not going to solve the problem.

You could try raising a formal grievance anyway, that the way the current system is being operated is not just allowing flexibility but is being exploited by some drivers to achieve an unjust distribution of hours and runs.

If there are multiple drivers aggrieved by this system (especially if the aggrieved are the majority rather than the minority), then obviously collective action is always more effective.

rule 1…if your not fast, your last.
rule 2. you snooze,you lose.
just make a point of going in for a week or so at 4.a.m and let them see what it feels like.
if nothing else, itl give your life meaning and purpose to mess them the way you think your being messed by them?

On the other hand, why go in at 4 or 5am without pay to get the rune you want? It’s put up or shutup time.
