Layby Parking

I sometimes wonder how people get out of some laybys in the morning. I regulary pass the layby at Ellerby on the A1, they are crammed in there with what looks like a foot either end. Do they all wait there patiently on a morning to leave in reverse order!!. The ones at the bottom end of the A14 around Huntingdon are the same.

when you pull up to the back of the truck in front leave yourself enough room to get out, its not hard really :unamused:

Driving up the A1 from London to Peterborough, I did notice a Artic parked up in a Layby, Cant remember which one it was, but apart from this 1 truck, it was empty, What made it weird was how it was parked??
It must of been driven in at a 30 degree angle, the Cab seemed to just be touching the Fence around the layby and the n/s corner of the trailer was just and I mean JUST inside the layby

It’s common courtesy to pull up close to the wagon in front to enable more lorries to get into the layby as parking can be difficult to find at times but obviously leave enough room to get out, simples.

might not have been empty all night though, if he was the last one to squeeze in he would probably be the last to leave

Sorry didnt say the time lol, I saw this truck in there around 2pm

Its an observation, not a cry for help.

Perhaps he/she managed to park
up at the back of the lay by @ 5am when it was full and was having a 9 off?

I was about to say something like that. The amount of times ive had to park at a weird angle or place to suit the circumstances at the time, only for other trucks to leave before me leaving me looking like a right spanner!! I think most drivers are aware of this though when they see something like this, know what i mean pink lady :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:  :grimacing:

Trying to get out of a slot in an msa can be tricky sometimes too. You get penned in just as bad as lay bys these days

anyone ever seen a lorry facing the wrong way in a one way only layby  they usually have those dodgy ethnic european number plates

On very rare occasions I would park in laybys in the UK but i had a show trailer with generator, hot water and a kitchenette so I was well set up. I always spoke to any driver in front to ask what time he would be leaving then drive right up to his back doors for his load security.
I would mostly try to avoid laybys if I had the chance because of being pestered by raving fudge packers who haunt those places.
Over here we have rest areas on most interstates, not to be confused with service areas, these are just purpose built pull off’s with no diner etc and again I try to avoind these because those dirty menfolk are not just limited to the UK  also there have been cases of drivers being shot through the side of the sleeper as they sleep… I once stoped in a rest area/ layby on I-95 in Florida one night and before getting in the bunk a car drove by then reversed to my truck, a long haired git got out and came to my drivers window and asked if he could talk to me, I asked what he wanted and he asked to climb on the step so i could hear him, I told him I could hear him fine so say waht he wanted to “I have something in the car to show you” he said.
“Now way am I getting out of this cab so whatevery it is go and get it” I said.
He drove off and a few seconds later a sherriff slowly drove around, I got out and told him and he said “if you had got out you would probably be dead by now” and drove off in hot pursuit, I never heard anything more but made sure it was service areas from then on.
I have parked in back road pull offs and got blocked in by others who are sleeping and it’s a sod to get out.
