Just a warning note for all those who operate on the A40 Nr. Haverfordwest (Fishguard R,d).The large pull off at Tangiers Farm just North of Haverfordwest Aerodrome is to be sealed off in March. This is due to the W.T.R.A. deciding that increased traffic caused by a successful planning application to expand commercial /industrial development at the farm (partly re-named Western Tangiers for obvious reasons) means an increase in the No of visitors to the site. In their wisdom (?) they think it safer to close the only large, safe pull off on the North bound carriageway and rely on all traffic using the lay-by just after the Ridgeway garage to the South, entailing turning 180deg across the South bound traffic flow and a return to the Withybush (Days’) roundabout ( No turn right out of the lay- by ) to commence one’s journey North.(in their dreams!). It is 7.6Km between the small lay-by at the Golf Club,East of H/West ( hardly big enough ) and the next Lay-by to the North of the Corner Piece Inn nr. Spital.
Well its too late to do anything now ,the contractors are here digging up the lay -by with a view to closing it off to suit the corporate ambitions of the site owner in a flagrant overturn of his original planning consent for 1 business on site . The WTRA are convinced that its safer to close the only safe pull off for HGV and Farm Vehicles on 7.6 Km of the Northbound carriageway of the A40 Nr. Withybush Aerodrome so that vehicles entering and leaving the site can have clear and un-obstructed views North and South.I personally think the danger of a head on collision caused by frustrated drivers trying to overtake loaded farm vehicles is a far greater risk ,but then I’ m only an interested party with a HNC in Mech.Eng and a CPC certificate, that has extensive knowledge of the frequency and use of said pull-off by Large slow moving vehicles. I was never asked and all my attempts to get the decision reviewed have been Re-buffed. CASE CLOSED.
