Im using one last few weeks. Up and down both sides 3 times before proper tight, its hard work, then when undoing almost take your hand off.
Hi All,I have recently bought two refurbished pllerless Curtainsider trailers from a well known dealer in the midlands, trouble is keeping the curtains tight as the buckles are costantly becoming slack especially when running empty, the trailers are 2003 and ex DHL,just wondered has anyone got a cure for the problem, would I be advised to change the buckles or is there a way of doing the buckles up (I find going front to back then tightening up again the opposite way helps a bit but time consuming) I’ve owned this sort of trailer before and don’t remember them being a problem, would be grateful for any advice
A company I used to do a lot of driving for has several dozen of those in their fleet and I never found a good way of keeping the straps tight. You do one side up nice and tight, then go to the other side and do them up and that pulls the roof down a bit so the other side is now slack. You have to go round two or three times to get them into a half decent state.

i use two internal straps either side about 6ft apart to pull the roof down then i tighten the ratchets as tight as i can and the same with the buckles and it works for me

Me too
If you can’t do that, because of the load, start tightening from the middle strap and work out from there, it doesn’t matter whether you go out to the back or front first, but pulling the middle down is the trick

i drive for DHL, and have probably pulled those trailers, ^^^ is the best bet. Those bloody Teardrop trailers they have got now are believe it or not even worse for slack curtains. It really ■■■■■■ me off, i allways have curtains like a drumskin wherever possible, just not possible with DHL, cos those trailers are total crap.
Thanks for your replies fella’s seems as though its a problem with the type of trailer then, just have to put up with it i suppose, many thanks
ive been on dhl and also hanson with these type of trailer and couldnt believe the hassle of trying to tighten the curtains.
Hi all thanks for all the suggestions, have just fitted some better quality buckles to one of the trailers and although you still find yourself going down the trailer sometimes twice tightening the buckles twice, they do seem to stay tight and being better quality buckles they’re a lot easier to
many thanks
The strange thing is, DHL also run the exact same trailers on the British Gypsum contract, BUT instead of a handle to turn at the rear of the trailer to tighten, it is just a pole… now these trailers go tight and stay nice and tight, no messing around with all the above comments, strange eh??
