Hiya…why not ask the dvla if you can drive the f12 not more than so many hours on a agreed amount of
times. i think thats what i’d do. how old is your F12. the DAF i had (D reg) was tacho exempt 2 years ago.
I’am not doing that many show’s this year so i’ll only be doing about 300 miles max.
i think you’ll find the showmen have been told to get in line with the running of their trucks.

I would take the 5th wheel off and fit a 200l tank, or just dont fill it up as much. Any weight is without driver, passenger and tools.

Spent an age talking to the powers that be today…and a very nice man at Volvo called Adrian…who spent an age telling me the weights of components on our old girl.
I owe him a lot of Beer !!!
And after taking off all the bits i dont need and changing the springs for lighter weights due to no longer using the fifth wheel etc etc etc we can get down to an expected 5.94 tonnes , so if i fit a lightweight hitch on the back i can tow a full trailer type live in caravan to suit of up to 2tonnes ish…and the missus can drive it !!!
Now its time to think about the trailer design (showmans type ?) and the rebuild…
Something to do at last!
Just to comment on the motorhome idea (which I can’t tell if you are still considering):
I am going through this with a Scania 82m at the moment, and the lengths you have to go to these days to get Swansea to reclassify as a motorhome are extensive (being gracious!) The short version is here: caravanwise.co.uk/motor/diycamper.html
I have just sent off my V5C along with photographs of everything they say must be there, and am waiting with bated breath to see if they accept or not.
There is an internet forum for people doing conversions sbmcc.co.uk/ which I have found very helpful.
Best of luck with the project!
Tim

If you have it plated at 6.5 tonnes GVW then that leaves you with a plated trailer MAM/caravan MPTLM of 1.75 to play with for a pre 1997 C1+E licence holder
I would pay a visit to your local Goods Vehicle Test Station they are usually good at pointing you in the right direction and may even give you it in writing. Eddie.

Been and spoke to the boys atthe testing station and i took the old girl with all the bits removed…even that huge PTO drive unit !!!..She Now weighs a tad under 6tonnes according to the local scrappies weighbridge and thats without the springs being swopped, which in my state i did not fancy doing.
So now I have to book a test and the paperwork for replating at 6.5tonnes, And start the cleaning and painting process to get her up to scratch.
At last something to do albeit not so fast thesedays.
Thanks for the info lads, and it has helped me mentally too, given me something to keep me occupied.
You mever know we may make a show yet this year!
We haven’t seen a picture yet!!!
