Beware, the lastest DVLA scam.
They conveniently “lose” your log book when you sell the vehicle. Then charge you £80 for not taxing or SORNing the vehicle you have sold.
When you query it they don’t want to know.

I have always sent in the slip advising DVLA that I have sold the car even if the dealer has offered to do it for me, the last 3 times I have had confirmation from the DVLA that they had received the notification.
On the document it tells you to contact them if you do not receive the confirmation, did you send in the slip and get the acknowledgement?
Every time I have done this I have always used recorded delivery, they cannot argue with that!

^^^ Like that, and not expensive!
I sent the “slip” in myself…They “conveniently” lose it
Everything I send to the dvla goes special. The few quid it costs outweighs the grief if they lose it

How do you know Royal Mail didn’t lose it?

Never mind that if rumours are true they are loosing peoples licence entitlements when you post your licence back to them
I exported a car to Belgium, they lost my paper work…that cost ME £80…
One more here Sent the slip in complete with tax refund thingy. Got the tax back so thought nothing of it until I got stung for the “missing” slip.
Robbing gits
Unless you sent the sellers slip to them recorded or special delivery you can’t claim it is a DVLA scam as it is quite possible it could have been lost by the Royal Mail.
Also, if you did not receive the written confirmation from them that you were no longer the keeper of the vehicle you should have chased it up as that is a clue that they have either not received it or lost it in processing.
Plus presumably if they still had you down as the registered keeper they will have sent you a tax disc application form out for the vehicle. That should have been a pretty big hint that they still think you own it and that you need to do something about it.
I’m not saying the DVLA are blameless here but it takes two to tango…

Interesting thread here bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=2337728 (sickpups post about half way down) There have been many, many more where the DVLA have lost in court over the same issues.
Why pay for recorded or special delivery?? You can get proof of postage free from any Post Office.

Proof of postage is not the same as proof of delivery, that’s why. You are trying to prove that the DVLA received it, proof of postage does not give you that. If you send it signed for you can see the name of the person at the DVLA that signed for it and their signature on their website once it has been delivered. It only costs something like 75p more than normal post.

You don’t need to prove delivery, proof of posting is good enough to fulfil your obligation under current law.
