Late for service - lost warranty?

I just got my warranty booklet out for my car to check if my service is due after 16000 or 18000 as I wasn’t sure about it and I am over 15400 now, and i found it’s after 18000 or 2 years, so I am nearly 2 months late :frowning:

Does it mean that I lost my warranty, or proving that I was taking reasonable care and my car was off the road for several months and seen by authorised dealer after it, I will be all right?

Hi Orys,

If the warranty is at 18000 miles / 2 years (whichever comes 1st) and you are now at 2 yrs 2 months you may well be out of luck. But you can always ask them anyway, nothing to lose…

I wouldn’t fret about it. Find a local garage to service it and the money saved over a franchise dealer would cover most stuff likely to go wrong anyway. If they’re VAT registered they can still sign the service book and the warranty is valid. I had a citroen c1 quoted £300 for a service by a dealer. Local garage £120 and he’s vat registered so signed the book for me.

With the dates adjusted accordingly, wink wink.

I don’t think they have to be VAT registered, anyone with the right qualifications (RSA City and Guilds etc) can stamp and sign the book to keep the warranty. I think the term is “competent person”.

It will not be a problem about the time, the only reason they put a time stipulation on it is to cover the little old lady who only visits her sister in Bournemouth and does 600 miles per year.

book it in as normal through the main dealer, because Fred in a shed will not be able to do any warranty recalls or warranty claims.

Once the warranty has expired, then you can use any garage through Block Exemption rules

It does need to be a VAT registered garage ,
And as far as I can remember they need to use “dealer approved parts” ie Genuine parts to keep warranty good .

I apologise profusely and stand corrected!
