Am going to buy a laptop, so may as well use it as a tv in the truck. Has any one any suggestions as to which program/make to install. Ease of use etc. Would prefer digital, as analogue is on the way out. Have read that Win Tv has a poor picture quality. Any suggestions. Thanks.

I bought a Freecom USB stick that does Digital TV (DVB-T) direct from www.freecom.com (newly released). The BIG problem is receiving a decent signal so that the picture does not freeze. Things will improve once analogue is switched off as they will boost the digital signal but until then you will definately have problems unless you boost the signal somehow via a booster or use a proper aerial as the supplied aerial is a bit naff.
i am looking at eye tv for my laptop
not sure wot the sys requirments are as i have a mac
Tortoise if you work it out let me know which was the best configurstion a si think i might do the same as it looks like i,m going to be doing some nights out soon and i want to buy a laptop.
I got AVER MEDIA with my DELL i bought it all at the same time
http://www.averm.co.uk/avermedia/aver/products_tvtuner_avertvusb2plus.asp?show=2
I find it works well though i will invest in a better arial as the one supplied is only any good in strong signal areas.
Whilst looking for the link for my product i noticed there were lots of other options available from aver media i suggest you have a good look round their site
Just seen this on another post click on the link put on this quote

Question…My son in law tells me you can get tv from your computer…if this is the case…do you still need a tv licence…■■I think the wording of the law is something along the lines of “any equipment capable of receiving a TV signal”
…so the answer is ‘Yes’ you do need an TV licence!

Having said that, if you look here you will see the smallest freeview adapter I have seen!! I am planning to get one of those to go with my laptop when on my UK travels; slightest knock on the door and it’ll unplug in a flash!!

I have just bought a freecom DVB-T Stick and have not got a signal yet. Maybe it is the area I live and will try it later in the truck. What is the best antenna to get? if that is the problem. anybody else use this?
When I bought the tv stick in Maplins I had to give my name and address to the TV licence people although how they can stop me watching it in Holland is beyond me

Assuming you have a TV licence at home you are covered for the truck anyway. Wonder how Maplins would have reacted if you had given them a Dutch address?
I had a ‘brush’ with the TV licence people when I was tramping.
Result - because I was single at the time and there was no-one at home watching TV, I only needed one licence. If they knew that my then-girlfriend was in the house looking after my dogs and watching my TV I would’ve needed two licences!!
Someone was giving you duff information Marcustandy. You do not need a second TV licence for a TV in a truck. On the TV Licensing website it says.
Do I need a licence for any other type of home?
If you watch or record TV programmes in a second home which is a touring caravan or vehicle, or a boat, you do not need a separate TV Licence; you will be covered by the TV Licence for your main residence.
The whole thing about whether someone is watching the TV at home or not ,applies to static caravans and mobile homes, not vehicles.
You can find the relevent info on the TV Licensing site HERE
Well i’m glad I never got a second one then!!
Car’nt you just get a laptop with Windows Media Centre installed on it. i have this on me home computer and watch tv on it.
There are two versions of the Freecom USB stick.
There’s a hybrid version that does analogue TV as well as terrestrial digital. Though it’s more expensive (around £50) it’s definately the one to get.
best place to buy one is on ebay i have got a signal on mine but its patchy at times. I need to invest in a good ariel, note make sure the usb stick you buy does not have a odd ariel connector and that it has the standard coax connector then you can buy a house arial if needed
