Laptop power supply

A question for you techno type folks…
Ive got a 2000w invertor hardwired into the cab, Ive also got a new toshiba laptop.
It will charge the laptop but i cant turn it on while its charging without it “pulsing”? The screen goes dim then bright and the charging lights flash on and off??
A mate has told me to buy a cheap laptop power supply and try that?
Id sooner not shell £20 out for it to do the same thing though. Any ideas why its doing it please?

If the laptop battery is charged, then take it out and run the laptop off your invertor, see if it does the same thing.

Also does it do the same thing plugged into the mains at home?
If it does it could be a fault with the power supply.

Can’t say I know what the problem is though.

sounds like the power is flucuating and not giving a constant stream, maybe theirs a fault with the inverter or the powerlead to the lappy, mine is running ok with a 24 volt power lead (£25 ebay) plugged into the lighter socket and the screen is constant.
if your power lead is 240 volt try it at home then that should rule out a faulty power lead.
if its ok maybe your inverter is not powerful enough to both charge and use .
hope this helps a bit.
quoted from above "If the laptop battery is charged, then take it out and run the laptop off your invertor, see if it does the same thing. " good idea cos then your inverter will only be operating laptop and not trying to recharge battery.

Thanks for the replies colin and gez.
Its a big invertor at 2000watts, it runs a household microwave no problem.
Im on the laptop now at home and its working fine. I didnt realise it would work without the battery in so ill try that next week at work. Thanks again

Simon:
Or you can shell out a bit more for a 12 - 24 - 28v power supply from
laptop-chargers.co.uk/dc.htm.

They also do them dedicated to your particular laptop brand/model for a bit more dosh. Go to their home page, and look up your lappy.

They made me a lovely charger for mine. Works in the lorry and the car.
