Ok, Simcor I will put it another way. 5 mins compared to me. I passed my HGV test in the 70’s in a proper truck,
I am not disputing a lot of car drivers do that but a lot of truck drivers elephant race which is just as bad if not worse.
But don’t worry it will all come to an end a lot sooner than you think. Some drivers cannot control themselves so we will all have to be controlled. FACT.

Lol wow one case we know of, shame about the other 99% that get ignored because there is no police to deal with them.
This could be a self funded option, giving the power to fine drivers for doing so. I reckon at 100 quid fine in 3 hours on the M1 I could rake in easily 10K in a night in fines. Doesn’t even need to be a pull either these days. Camera footage and electronic fine sent in the post. Automatically no arguments. It’s the only way these idiots will learn.
And what about the elephant racers in trucks? Do they not count? I agree automatic 3 points and fine but it has to be for every [zb] idiot.
Trucks have to overtake at some point. When you have been gaining on another truck and have to keep backing off then you have to overtake at some point. Plus the onus is upon the driver being overtaken to be prepared to slow down and let the overtaking vehicle pass. So yes police the dicks that hold you out because you dared to overtake them and then they get a rub downhill etc or have found another gear. If truck drivers learnt to be more polite to each other then we wouldn’t get elephant racing.
If a truck has caught you up at some point it was moving quicker than you and goes to overtake slow down a few clicks and let them in and vice versa.
Plenty of elephant racing by car drivers in the roadworks sitting there at 47mph as they don’t want to go over 50mph in all 3 lanes when there is absolutely no need to do so.
Bring on self driving vehicles completely cars trucks the flipping lot.
Not being funny fella but you have been driving trucks for 5 mins and by what you say you seem to have grown a biased towards truck drivers and an attitude against car drivers.
As someone else said, no you do not have to overtake especially if your speed is much the same as the vehicle you are passing.
Far too many selfish truck drivers doing this these days I am afraid.
I drove before speed limiters were introduced and in my book it was far better because some drivers now cannot anticipate when to overtake or not. Either that or they are selfish and just do not care.
Car drivers hog lanes but so do lorries and they all want prosecuting. Stop being biased.
I knew you were on a fishing excercise bud when you answered my post with a reference to ‘Elephant racing’ when I never even mentioned it…so I’ll bite.
Well I haven’t just been driving for 5 mins either, and imo elephant racing is an inevitable negative by product of when they introduced limiters in the 80/90s
It aint too much of a problem on a Mway tbf, but more so on a 2 lane d/c.where it certainly is.
So they clamp down in it as you suggest, who do they nick?
The guy who has maybe pulled out on overrun, or maybe just made an error of judgement,
or
The self righteous prick who keeps him out for the hell of it.
or
Both?
An idea would be to limit a truck to 70mph, keep the speed limit as it is 60, and then you have a bit in reserve to overtake.
On the other hand a zero tolerance and a heavy fine for the dicks and teararses who e/raced at 70 over 2 lanes, and for those who saw 70 as a target and sat on it perpetually all day…a fortune could be made.
Just an idea.
As usual rob you come out with a sensible answer and a good idea. I reckon simcor means well but not so sure about some of the other clowns.
It’s a difficult one. I remember the first time I drove a truck with a limiter. OMG I thought the throttle cable had snapped or someone was braking for me but then you learn to adapt.
Some obviously do that while others could not give a ■■■■ or have no anticipation skills.

Rule 168
Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.

Maybe so mate, but that does not alter the fact that you’re a self righteous twunt if you keep another truck hanging out there for the hell of it.

Did I say I would mate?
I set my cruise control 4kph under max.
When i’m gaining on the truck in front,I pull out nice and early, and then power past.
Pull well clear, move back over…and resume.
Why can’t so many drivers grasp it…it’s so ■■■■■■■ basic.
