Had to park at side of E40 motorway last night as couldn’t find anywhere else to park, there was about 50 other trucks parked at the side of the road too on both sides. Is Belgium famous for having a lack of parking?
The weather may not be helping, but its near to xmas, which means all the truck stops will be full of EE’s abandoning there trucks and being shipped back home by the bus load for xmas.
And theyre the ones who advocated no sleeping in your truck for a 45…so maybe all the drivers dumped their trucks and went off to a hotel…i mean, gotta have somewhere to park eh.
Europe is quite bad now, unless you park early…so thats what you have to do…and the boss cannot argue…start early…park up early.

He parked up last night, so it’s unlikely the other drivers were on a weekly rest, regular or reduced.
I’ve found in the last couple of years in countries that enforce their interpretation of the weekly rest period, that the services have far more room than before.
I think what Concretejim was eluding to, is companies like Waberers getting their drivers to leave their trucks in Western Europe over Christmas and bussing them home.

Certain parts of Belgium seem to have more crowded parkign areas than other and the E40’s a long road, what part of Belgium where you in? Between which towns or cities?
Saw this yesterday while loading in Belgium, go steady where you park if we can’t make it to Calais from the loading point in Belgium we stay on site till morning

No it’s famous for chocolate and chips with mayo.

I was parked between Aalter & Ghent beside the turnoff for Nevele, I was in Germany two weeks ago and to be fair you are spoilt for choice over there when it comes to parking. You would think they would all have similar setups like but certainly not the case

Yep that bit can be busy,
In Germany you need to look for the Autohof signs, they take you to truckstops just off the motorways, most are ok, some are amazing. Many you have to pay for now, but you’ll get that back if you buy a meal.
There are various Apps that’ll help you to parking places round Europe and if you have an idea where you’ll be, might be worth posting a request in the Euro section on here.

The E40 has no rest areas other than the services, it gets difficult to park along there due to Drongen closing it’s truck park at 20:00 and if drivers are coming up the E411 the last services Bierges before Brussels Ring closes its Truck Park too. Your options then are risking getting mugged at Groot Bijgarden or pushing your luck to get parked at Wetteren.
Where were you heading from ?
I came off boat in Zeebrugge yesterday morning and it took four hours getting to a drop below Tielt. Then took me nearly 6 hours to get from the drop back to the E40 at Aalter and that was only 25km. Pure disaster of a day cause of the snow

Moved about 2 kilometres in about 4 hours whatever happened on the E40 at Aalter. Would put years on you sitting in traffic doing nothing for that long lol)
most likely a similar version to this dozy ■■■■■.
completely ignoring the previous gantry signs telling her that there was a tailback on the exit slip same as usual…

belter of a clip though, plus amusing that the flipflop truckie kept er lit and never stopped.
I think there are roadworks around the junction at aalter . Plenty of parking if you get of the E40 come off at wetteren and head for the n9 park on that then just head for the r4 to rejoin in the morning
There used to be a booklet available - I think sponsored by AS24 that listed many truckstops that were not signposted - it covered almost all western Europe, found some great little spots with it. if its still available/current I would grab it on many occasions it made the difference between a rest area and a few kilometres more to good food and drink
I’ve seen that clip before Dieseldog, at least I know now where it happened lol. The amount of cars cut across like that I’m surprised that sort of thing doesn’t happen more often

similar to coming along at fortwilliam and knowing its most likely to have the flashing queue advisorys for the westlink… apparently she was a local, hence the kids stuff flying along the road and would have been well aware it was a tailback area.
This is the app I use, it’s not too bad, but I’ve found that many of the reviews are outdated and the parking is either not as described or closed.

A little routiers booklet, as you say they’re very good, but also very hard to come by these days, Iv been on the lookout for one, can’t seem to get them anywhere, alot of the older drives wud have carried them.
