L plate question?

Right so i passed my cat c today and have my mod 4 on monday so if i pass that then my dad has said he will take me out in an artic on L plates. My question is now ive passed my cat c can i get straight into an artic or do i have to wait for dvla to add the provisionel c+e to my license?.

What provisional entitlement is currently listed on the paper part of your licence? That will not change until DVLA issue your new, Full licence. Until that time, you will still have a Provisional licence (for Group C) but the pass certificate removes the requirement for you to be supervised/carry L plates etc (while driving a Group C vehicle).

Would just be cat c i would think but will check later. I thought i would have to wait untill dvla add c+e to my paper part.

To see if the CE provisional is on the licence without the physical bit being returned to you then check here -

L plates and correct insurance required to drive it with dad as supervisor

Thanks for that rog. All the insurance is being sorted at the moment, just a case of getting mod 4. Ill take a look at that link. Also what do you think is better to do wait a few months get some experience driving rigids and artics on L plates or just book my artic training as soon as my license comes back ?.

If you can afford to - GET IT NOW

Yeah i have the money saved for it. I thought that as it will stop me getting bad habbits and then having to try get rid of them for the test.

Why do people say artics are easier to drive than rigids ? Obviously apart from when it comes to reversing

The transition from a car to a lorry is dramatic compared to to lorry to a bendy lorry.

The licence comes back with a full Cat C dated from when you pass and the CE provisional dated from when they add it. Normally around a week later.

The answer to the OP is you cannot drive CE on a Cat C pass cert

Yeah thanks for that. I will be checking online and as soon as its added then ill be out on the L plates gettig some practise in.

Dad needs to have held CE for at least 3 years to supervise. I know there’s a very good chance he’s done 10 times that - but thought it should be mentioned.

Also, with the greatest respect for Dad, be aware that trainers sometimes have to spend time undoing what has been done with the best of intentions. I would suggest a bit of practice just to start getting the feel of the truck and then move on to a school and concentrate on that.

All the best with it, Pete

Haha yeah hes had his CE about 30 years. The whole idea is just to get used to driving artics will only be a couple days just to try help it along a little. I understand bad habbits get picked up, thats why i want to get my CE done as quick as i can.
Thanks for your advise though.
