I was wondering about your job Gnome when I heard about the closure. Is there scope for opening it another time or is it gone for good?
As for LE’s I know exactly what you mean!
I’m not sure yet. Word is that the bag store at Mars Jones will remain (it also does retail sales) and some drivers will be retained. Sales team is unaffected but that’s no surprise.
Denbigh has relied on summer production of game feeds (pheasant, duck etc) to maintain its profitability for a few years now, and with the recession hitting leisure activities like shooting I suspect this was inevitable; production has been transferred to other mills. Naturally this has been portrayed in some quarters as stuffing the Welsh to bail the English out but they conveniently forget that the company has actually invested a ■■■■-load of money in Carmarthen. Ironically the mill manager is English as a are a few of the staff.
it’s a shame really, it is a well-run mill with a good team of staff. I’m only glad that I was put on a permanent contract last year, otherwise I’d have been stuffed after this summer.

However, Deputy TC Miles Dorrington was told the offences taken to court were “only the tip of the iceberg” and there had been a failure to produce a substantial number of charts.
That 1 word says a lot, and they obviously deserve to be off the road
At the time of going to press on Tuesday (yesterday) it emerged that the future of the long established Sandy Kydd Road Transport of the Orchardbank Industrial Estate was in doubt after investigators discovered 85% of tachographs submitted during two

Hi browncow2, there’s often more to these things than meets the eye…
Whilst I’m not suggesting that lawbreakers should get off Scot free, it’s quite possible that a ground for an appeal is that the punishment (revocation) was disproportionate when there were the lesser options of suspension and/or curtailment. If an appeal can be made, and in the fullness of time, the Transport Tribunal will make a ruling, so it’s far from over just yet.
There’s a link at the bottom of this story: roadtransport.com/Articles/2 … ences.html
That takes you to the Traffic Commissioners full decision. It’s a bit dry but explains his reasoning.
I have a shift tonight via an agency at L E Jones, two loads from Ruthin to Bridgenorth, on flats (Aluminium) On paper it looks tight, all A roads etc… think its 14 loads in total…
Will only be one load if im told to punch it drive…
Davey Driver:
But Globby the Law is the Law, if drivers cant be bothered to ensure they have taken sufficient rest, they cant cry later on that they had only taken an 8hr 50 min rest. Long before the Hour Guards or Tach Trak etc became popular, I was driving on Multi Drop and away from home Mon - Fri, if I parked up at 6pm, I knew I couldn’t start until 05:00 if I needed an 11 hr rest.
It aint rocket science calculating what time you can restart, also when it comes to breaks there’s no way you can mistake 43 minutes for 45 minutes, you either take 45 mins or you dont.
It’s sad that innocent drivers need to suffer because of the few, but hey, 20 drivers is almost 30% of the total drivers employed, LE Jones was obviously happy that the drivers were putting his work first, and to hell with the rules, so in my opinion he deserves what he gets.
Rather Strangely though, these reports never list how many of the drivers griped on about being pushed to the limits all the time?
If they didn’t gripe on then obviously they were happy with what they were doing
yep the law is the law i agree, as you say you have been over your time never mind davey you have wrote on the back of the card its still BENT!!! the law gives you the max times doesnt mean you have to run to 4,30 mins same as doing speed on the motorway you dont have to do 70 that is the max!! so davey what i am trying to say in this is drivers are human and do make mistakes ok some flout it …
but davey can you remember the old 3x 15 mins =45 mins in 4.5hrs of driving , so you take your 3 x15 inj your 4.5 hrs drive “yes all legal” then drive for 3 more hours and have a tug by the vos~tapos, and they so oooh you havent had a break?? you have drove for 7 hrs 20 mins with no rest mmmh how come?? because the ■■■ pots they are count backwards on a clock as well as foward now how many people count backwards?? only vos~tapos just to get a conviction, so has the driver realy run bent in my eyes no he has take his 3x15 “old rules” but still he has drove for near enough 8 or 9 hrs with out a break,
so as for as gripes etc they will be out of the say 100 drivers 80 of them will be prob straight but have a few silly infrignments so they are tarded with the same brush and put out of work i would say 98% of the chappys on here have been bent!!! yes bent be it rest period, over hrs, clip"d up what ever you want to call it,but again most are all to willing to condem the others for doing so with out all the facts after all there is 3 sides to every story, theres others and the truth!!!
as lee has stated stopwatches timers etc doent mean they are spot on with the tacho, but mistakes etc do happen so will flout it some wont but what is the reasons for flouting the law facts need to be know before we all try and hang them dont they chaps

It should take about 2 hours, each way. You’ll be in and out of Bridgnorth quicker than you can blink, and you can park outside the plant if need be.
The Aluminium Plant closing would have affected LE Jones, they have a lot of the contract at the moment, with Gwynedd only doing a few runs. Its closure wouldn’t affect Gwynedd that much as they only used it as a way to get out of Holyhead to pick up an Irish bound load elsewhere.
Potentially L E Jones closing may be good for Gwynedd in the short term but who knows, maybe Gwynedd could get some of the Snodland Paper to Ireland back, if they want it■■? However i haven’t worked for Gwynedd for a couple of years and things have changed a fair bit there in regards of what they do and for who.
My mum phoned me the other day and pointed me to the article in the Daily Post saying “It will be sad if they take their tidy wagons off the road!”. What can i say!?
I had to make do with an 06 Scanny, with that semi auto type box, use the clutch to start and stop, shame I had auto on the brain and stalled at the first set of lights
Smart kit though, shame if they do go to the wall, BUT I know nothing other than what a driver said, the runs I did, could have been done at dead on legal speeds, but that would more than likely have eaten into a 10 hour drive…

People do make mistakes…but when they are making mistakes 5 or 6 days a week then they are taking the pish! Why do you keep going on about the pre 07 rules■■? 2 years on and youd think that the new rules would have sunk in by now■■? Any driver worth his salt would make ■■■■ sure he was up on the Regs and not use the excuse of ignorance.
