Knowhow Newark Thumbs Up!

Just done a 19.00 tip here, I informed them that I would have to be leaving by 20.00 as I had to be done by 20.30. No problem get it straight on bay 39 and we’ll sort it.

20.00 comes and I wanna be getting away so goes to see them, be 5 more minutes just sorting paperwork. 20.15 arrives and I’m still sat.

20.25 comes and out comes the paperwork and everythings sorted, goes upto bird on desk to get my keys and to voice my opinions and I gets ‘Sorry about this theres been some problems with the paperwork, what time shall you be leaving in the morning?’

‘Sorry what?’

‘It was our problem with the paperwork so you can park on site overnight, what time will you be leaving?’

‘Be 5.30 ish I should reckon love’

‘You can park on the bay or move it down the yard if you like, I’ll let security know whats happening and to expect you leaving in the morning’

Mad rush back to truck and got card out with minutes to spare, not my first choice of overnight places but I got all I need.

I thought that was pretty cool for a firm like Knowhow, Fair play!

They are one the better places. Can sometimes be a long tip but always friendly enough.

Like you I have had to park on site before for similar reasons and they didn’t bat an eyelid with no arguments. Seems like they actually have a vague grasp of our job re.hours etc.

Earlier I rocked up at BMW at Coleshill to ask the security guard what’s the earliest time I can come in in the morning as I’m booked to load at 1000hrs.
He asked my registration and then said I’m on the system already to load and if I want I can park on site.
He gave me a mobile phone and said they’ll ring me in the morning when they are ready for me to go down.
I thought that’s a result as there’s showers etc on site that he informed me I can use.
Just got back to the truck after a shower and the phone he gave me rang so I answered it and the guy says if I want to load now they’ll do it now. I explained to the guy I’d booked off for the night and his reply was ‘what time do you want to load in the morning?’
I just said 0800hrs would be great so he said ‘ok mate no worries we’ll ring you then, hope you have a good nights sleep.’
First class service I say
If only RDC’s were like BMW ha ha

The Newark Rdc used to have the goods in office at the front and you would need a taxi to go round and hand in the keys. They have a portacabin at the back now and the staff are friendly. The Eastern euro girls are very attractive and polite.

Where you on about Toby ?

I have worked at Knowhow on and off in both the warehouse and as a driver since it was built and don’t know what your on about re: Portacabin ?

Edit:

The only Portacabins I know of are for the delivery vans and 7.5ton local delivery stuff ?

Did you mean Dixons RDC with the security bollards with a ramp and they check you in with hand held scanners. Not sure if we are in the same depot but i saw Know How banners here.
The goods in there has the portacabin at the rear for all sizes of trucks.

Its a new setup pal, round the back by w35.

God, that’s surprising from the bigger firms, usually the smaller firms are cool.

I think we get so used to being dealt with like lepers that it comes as a bit of a surprise when we get treated ok.

It was Curry’s and then became KnowHow, same meat different gravy

Goods in is in the middle of building 1 and building 2, the Portacabin at the rear deals with the vans and 7.5t local delivery vehicles but I guess they may also deal with the scrap metal, and other secret things I’m sure lol

In there now. Put on a bay 1 1/2 hours early with their apologies that they might be half hour before they start loading.

Why can’t everywhere be like this.

Its round the west side next to W35 mate , they have moved RDC goods in and Small products into the portacabin.

Nice of you to come on here and tell about them. Everyone is quick to put the bad places down so nice to hear a good place getting a shout out.
I arrived at countrywide in Melton Mowbray once for a 9 pm collection only to find out I was 24 hours early. Parked on site and went to bed. Following morning I was reading my book and one of the lads on the office came over and have me his car keys to go get food and a wash somewhere. Really nice chap, said he hates seeing drivers stuck further than walking distance to facilities.

They called the delivery side of the business knowhow because they deliver fro other companies and they dont want a lorry with currys blazoned on it delivering their stuff.

Surprised you were allowed to park on site on the bay… As the company fire regs don’t allow it

Its always nice to hear when RDC’s are helpfull, rare but it does happen ive had a few good ones myself.

A recent one was a drop at HPC Bourne, I was 3 hours early for a 6pm slot and as my time ran out at 7pm asked if they would like it early (as you do). They where most upset at my cheek at arriving early and explained that it was a 4 hour tip.

Trying to explain the finer points of drivers hours regs to the goods in clerk was a waste of time so eventually after stating I would come back in the morning a compromise was met that I could drop the trailer on the bay at 6pm and come and collect in the morning.

Now not being a trusting chap and accounting for a shift change I arrived back at 5.45pm just as goods in bloke was going home, on entering the office a big notice was up that the 6pm delivery must be a live tip.

As there was only me delivering I wacked it on the bay, sorted out the paperwork with one of the lads hanging round the smoke hut and dropped trailer and buggered off solo / bobtail etc.

Anyway come the morning after a good nights kip I returned to collect trailer off the bay, whilst in the process of hooking up the night shift manager came over giving it the bigun that I shouldn’t have dropped it on the bay, I tried to explain it was sorted with the day shift bloke was greated with deaf ears and some mumbling about drivers etc…

Apparently the day shift goods in bloke had tried to pull a fast one but it failed.
So be carefull of shift changes as theres some buggers out there who will tell you one thing and do another.

Must of changed there rules because they wouldn’t let me park up the other month when I’d been there over 3 hrs got parked up just down road at 14 hrs 56 mins

I think you found the reasons. They’re not British and many are highly educated as in degree level so are used to being more polite. As much as I hate to say it, other than the fact they can’t drive for toffee our Eastern European workforce are better than Brits in so many ways its an embarrassment.

I have found the EE workforce more polite than the UK workforce, EE workers do not moan, they get on with the job, I have noticed English just moan and whinge.
