They have taken over parkers in Chichester and have applied to base an extra 30 lorries down here so just thought I’d ask the normal questions: pay, working conditions ect
Yeah, noticed they were pulling Parker trailers. Firm is on the up! Dunno about pay, usual average I suppose.
£360 for 50 hours then ot at about £9 an hour. £2 a day meal allowance and £22 a night out and they dock an hours pay a day for your break lol. And to top it off you have to pay £150 for your uniform but you get it back if you stay 6 months. All flash and no cash

Really ? bloody hell.
Because his wife was terminal so he shot her at her request & then did himself, mans a legend. Hasn’t had anything to do with the firm for years.
You sure it’s only £7.20 per hour, blimey, I’d of thought they pay more than that.

That was the money in november last year it might of changed but i doubt it.
I was sent it there to do a collection earlier on in the year, went into the office, and was spoken to like i was a pile of ■■■■■■ Turned out i was sent to the wrong place, but a bit of courteousy would have been nice, especially as i was polite to them

I like it when you’re sent to collect or tip at an ordinary haulage company and when you walk in the office they seem to for one reason or another mistake you for one of their own drivers, perhaps because outsiders there are rare and then proceed to talk to you like a piece of excrement. They do however soon shut up when they’ve realised the error of their ways.
I also used to get mistaken a lot for being Polish as I was a 21-25 year old, often wearing shorts and sandals in the warmer months and being young and wearing that attire isn’t generally stereotypically ‘British trucker’. I’ve had many a fellow countrymen shout at me in very slow and almost pidgin English telling me where to go and what to do, before I could open my mouth and let him know it wasn’t necessary.
Dunno how true it is but I was told they theoretically boost wages with a bonus system (£200 per month) applying to punctuality, tachos, paperwork, kpl, lack of bumps etc but you could lose it all by arriving too early for yor shift. Defies belief I know but two of their drivers have told me that.
I did three collections out of their new place on the A14 a few years ago for a customer of ours in one day , it was all pre arranged for weeks before ,when I arrived to do the first nobody had even heard of our customer let alone the sixty pallets of goods they were holding in the warehouse , that’s when they could be bothered to acknowledge my presence in their reception, but they were consistent because the third collection was just as much of a surprise as the first, which wouldn’t of been too bad if I hadn’t been dealing with the same supposedly superior being in the traffic office who insisted he’d not delt with me on the two prior occasions until I reminded him of his name and how he’d berated every one of his own drivers in my presence and when they left exclaimed “why am I surround by drivers with f*#king goldfish memory” funny I said it seems to be contagious!
Yeah, I remember the stand of silence at the desk in Kettering or wherever it is as well gickniff.
To be fair, you dont expect them to drop everything & sort you out but a simple acknowledgement & a, “We’ll be with you in 5 minutes drive” would be nice especially seeing as theres about 40 of them in there, no one can be arsed I suppose.
Think they were alright with me though once they got there act together the few times i’ve been in there.
Got to agree with you silver surfer but I can remember most of the days transactions without too much bother and I always treat people with the respect I expect to be treated with ,I’ll even give them benefit of doubt once if they’re having a bad day , but three times that’s pure contempt.
If I arrive on site and get spoken to like crap, I immediately do an about face and go back to my truck, I then get my gaffer to phone theirs. Lights a fire under their chairs does that and they are always civil afterwards.

More power to you mate ! A few more of us should take the same approach especially with rdc’s like Argos and the like as I’ve always gone in with a smile to be greeted with the reaction of “there’s a peadeo in the kiddy’s pool” type!

Jesus, your gaffer must be an absolute diamond! I’d probably just start laughing if a driver rang me up with that.
Just ignore 'em, that ■■■■■■ them off the most…
