A lot of younger drivers jump down from the cab or catwalk instead of turning round and climbing down. They’ll pay for that later in life.

I still do that and I’m 60

Exercise dear boy, no seriously.

I suffer with me knees too (worn out like most of us) but the Osteo put me right how to exercise the legs properly whilst he was sorting me back out years ago, it works.

Might be worth joining a gym and getting some proper advice, getting back in shape makes you feel a hell of a lot better all over.

If you do try exercise, don’t start running on the treadmill if you have bad knees. Running or any type of “high impact” activity is bad for the knees. Try cycling or rowing.

(My dads partner is a knee specialist).

Put the treadmill up at an angle and have a walk, it’s surprisingly difficult but it’s low impact on the knees. Just had physio for my knee and got taught these exercises :
Go up on tip toes and back down

Lunges

Step ups

Balancing on one leg and moving the other to four points of the compass

Lying on one side and keeping your ankles together lift your top leg up (like a clam)

Lying on your back, lifting your pelvis up off the floor then extending your leg.

Shuttle run

Make sure you stretch as well. Doing these every few days has built the muscle back up around my knee cap and now I have very little trouble with it. Unless it’s cold then it kicks off but exercises are definitely worth doing

I used to have that nasty habit in my 20s, you are ‘Invincible’ at that age & ‘you know it all’.

When I was training for my class 3/10 tonner licence the trainer kept telling me to stop jumping out every time we stopped. Managed to break the habit when I stopped for a cuppa, he ran round the front & grabbed my Nuts as I leapt out & told me “that’ll teach ya” & he made me pay for the tea’s. Lol.

Go and see t’vitnery and ask him for an assessment for a double knee replacement. I had both done when I was 60 - they won’t do it much earlier as they CAN wear out and you MAY need another before you die!

Best day’s work I ever did!

I work with an ex para, and his knee’s on it’s way out. Strangely, he loves handball though even though we have sack trucks…

Sounds silly but have you got your seat adjusted right?..

How true! I was told off for jumping out of the cab by an old boy at the brewery in Ipswich. Now, 40 odd years later I wished I hadn’t been so quick to dismiss him as a silly old fool.
But, when you’re young you’re invincible, or at least you think you are.

My right knee is knackered and I’m 31, I originally thought it was due to heavy work in highway construction, maybe all the running I used to do, or perhaps the jumping down from lorry trailers and cabs. Doctor says it’s cos I’m fat though. That clears that up then :-\

We never had three points of contact, we had a wheel nut ring, a plastic strap and a bag of maps

One of my knees is really bad at times, it locks up whilst walking or standing/stitting it’s never been right since i dislocated it over 10yrs ago (that was really painfull) i was told at hospital that i would probably at some point need a knee joint replacement, (thank’s but no thank’s i thought) i still don’t want it now, that for me would be a last resort for me
