knee injury

Hi all,

i,m due to have surgery on my knee, keyhole stuff, i have been told re driving that I have to tell my insurance prior and prob won,t be able to drive a car till 2 weeks after the op, but in respect of truck driving they cannot say and suggest I discuss this with my employer, as anyone else ad this and how long before returning to proper driving? Ta

Can’t give any help but am puzzled why you would need to notify your insurance.
I assume that you won’t be driving your car until it is healed and at that time it won’t affect your safety because it IS healed.

apparently things like this are a new get out clause for car insurance, i will have to go back for a follow up appointment after 6 weeks, and even then it may not be fully healed.

keep schtumm, tell them nothing, it all goes on your file, and gives them an excuse to bend you over @ renewal time :unamused:

I was off work 6 weeks after having surgery (Key-hole) on my left knee…

My car was an auto so that was easy, but the truck I had at that time was a manual so I had to stay at home…

My knee problem was caused by constanly having to change gear (clutch In, clutch out)…How many times does anybody change gear In a day (15 hour shift) with a manual 'box ■■

BTW , I was also told I’d be home for 2 weeks…

PS. Good luck with the Op…

I’m with Stanley on this one. I know that it may be irresponsible, but unless it’s something really serious, I wouldn’t be telling my insurers. There have been a few threads on here about people who have done ‘the right thing’ and told the DVLA about stuff and then had to jump through hoops of red tape to get their licence back. If it didn’t work against you, people would be more willing to follow the rules…

tbh, when they told me about the insurance it sort of fell on deaf ears, the hassles i have had with insurance i would rather never speak to them ever again…lol

just thinking about work insurance as well…

Why would you need to tell your insurers about it? Its not as if its a disability, just means a bit of time off sick surely. I would keep quiet as your licence is your livelihood. Fair doos’ if you lost sight in an eye or something similar, but an operation (even a big one on the knee) surely wont make a difference. I understand we all have to have medicals.

Can you not claim a couple of weeks holidays and then couple of weeks sick maybe? Don’t tell the insurers!

If the Docs say your gonna be OK afterwards, your gonna be OK, in fact in better nick than before.

So why tell them, they won’t send you a get well card.

Smashed my right knee cap into 5 pieces playing football 6 years ago :frowning: was off work for just over 3 months on ssp  must be a new thing because nobody mentioned anything about insurance to me not doctors surgeons nor work, back running playing football and legs as good as a new un

i don,t intend on telling my own insurance and never have tbh, though i have read my online policy terms and conditions and it does say in there I should inform them of any surgery or serious illness leading to hospitalisation.so maybe check your policies.

had major surgery on both knee’s and never told them…

this was down to osteo arthritis …to young to get knee replacement so they installed this in both knee’s was off work a total of 15 months …back to work now but still got a bit pain…

Does that trip the detectors at airports etc?

Why’ve you got Chinese writing on your thigh bone? :grimacing:

Looks nasty but effective. My dads partner is a knee specialist at NHS Vale in Cardiff (or whatever it’s called), she says knee operations are one of the most brutal. Don’t fancy a knee opp’ any time!

I had knee surgery in March. I took a month off driving trucks and that was about right for me but it will still give you jip for a while afterwards especially with a heavy clutch. If your driving an auto keep moving your leg about because otherwise it seizes up. (Assuming left leg here)

You can’t legally drive for 24 hours after the anaesthetic. I would check what is ‘advice’ from the hospital and what your policy says you must inform them of, because they will use it as an excuse to shaft you in some way.

Oh and don’t kneel on it

tell them nowt! Even when I go blind, I’ll say " sorry, I can’t here you in my left eye! :grimacing: "

I’m having keyhole in my left knee soon, torn cartilage from doing the London Marathon. I won’t be telling the insurance company. I just won’t drive until I feel ok to.
As others have said, if the Doctors say I’ll be fine, then I’ll be fine. Hopefully I’ll be better if anything.
