Hello Neil,
Two photos of Knee Brothers steamers.
When Temple Street was all demolished they only had a depository in Boyces Avenue Clifton. This was a victorian shopping arcade that never opened as such and Knee Bros used it as a store. As you walked down the arcade the shop fronts were either side and a curved staircase at the end led up to the balconies. There was an office at the entrance and I went there to copy the photos that were hanging on the walls. There are a couple that I cannot find.
I had a look round the place and I can remember wooden crates full with tins of saddle soap that had been acquired as first world war army surplus.
Teddy Knee was the last survivor and I know he died at the place in his nineties. Something sticks in my mind that he was on a toilet that fell through the rotten floor. Teddy was related to the Pye transport family and the firm was wound up after his death. The depository building was in a bad state but was restored and after all these years is now open as a shopping arcade.
Cheers Phil.
