You know how they close j37 on the A14 every night and you have to go around on a 3-4 mile diversion to literally come back at j37 and return on the a14 beause they banned right turn at the end of the slip road with cones and all? Well that little side road right after you make a left onto the diversion route that everyone was using to make a U-turn had been recently signposted as ‘no U-turn’ but of couse everyone pretty much ignored it so now they have CCTV to catch wrong does. Just a heads up because I still saw 1 truck do it the other night. There was a truck on that side road with orange lights pointed forwards (no roadworks there so I’m assuming it’s a mobile CCTV unit as I didn’t see any cameras at the actual spot)
If you were to do a 3 point turn…
Just a thought. It’s not a U turn, and the sign says “No U turn”.

Is a U turn not screwing a vehicle round in one, such as at traffic lights or gaps in the carriageway?
If I remember correctly, on my car driving test, it was either a 3 point turn (or turn in the road), or a reverse around a corner. And in my suggestion above surely it would technically be a ‘turn in the road’. I’m thinking there must be a technicality here somewhere.
Or perhaps it’s easier to just go a few miles to that roundabout.
I’d suggest that in the eyes of a directive saying no U turns its any manoeuvre resulting in the driver travelling up the opposite carriageway.
'Course I could be wrong…try it and see.

No, you try it!
No mate.
I’m not that stupid.
If you want to set a legal precedent potentially at great expense - crack on.

It’s a dead side road, I do tha same run every week night and since the roadworks on the bridge supports started (several months ago) I’ve seen a grand total of one vehicle emerging from that road so it’s safe to u-turn there. I don;t know why they banned it as it was a legit shortcut unless a string of morons who actually took the diversion and are now coming back are making it impossible to do it so you had to follow the div as well as you’d be blocking traffic on the exit slip + the a14 itself. It’s a waste of diesel/petrol but hey it’s not them who’s paying for it so what do they care. Yes it may be only a few miles and not that bad for a car but in a loaded hgv it’s probably a few litres of diesel easily, multiply that by 5 nights a week over several months across hundreds of vehicles each night…waste waste waste. Maybe only ban the u-turn before 10 p.m. or something if traffic is heavy around that time
Did wonder where the camera was, but as it coupd juat be up a pole I had no intentions of “chancing it”. Much rather just go on a couple of miles, turn round and keep my bank account to myself, plus the hassle from the company.
As for the “morons” following the original rules, last time I was there, the only morons I saw were those holding up the traffic waiting to do a u-turn while the previous truck slowly spun it! Was roughly 50/50 between diversion and turn with the CCTV sign clearly visible. Not like its tiny. Anyone missing that needs to go Specsavers.
Oh and diesel wasted…err, how about tyre tread? Looked like a skating rink of black lines. Think I’ll avoid being an unpatient moron and just follow the rules like I do elsewhere. At least some of us try to make drivers look like we got more than 2 brain cells and we also rather like our jobs.
Btw, of you want waste of diesel, try A14 J3 to 7 closed for what appeared to be 20 yards of roadworks. 20 mile diversion!

Already had the pleasure, thanks. Btw it was supposed to be closed from 6th for 10 nights but of course since they don’t work on weekends unlike us losers it was closed until the 20th. I wouldn’t know anything about tread wear as all our vehicles are rentals
