…are ■■■■■ ,left Chelmsford this morning at 4.30am needed a refill to get to the north east so decided to go to aclonbury bunker on the A1/A14 junction ,the week old card refused to read ,despite swiping on the way down so had to wait an hour for the garage next door to open at 7am to input manually ,the attendant was not happy .Anyone else have this problem with the cards ,the plastic seems really thin to me
Are you sure it wasn’t the card reader at alconbury? I’ve had problems both there and at lymm when using the card machine. Both times I have moved pumps and it has worked on another machine. Maybe you got the dodgy machine as I’m sure the plastic will be exactly the same as any other card.

That was my first thought as the card is quite new and it swiped at darrington on the way down but would not swipe in the garage or any of the machines at alconbury .How do you big boys cope when that happens as you can’t usually fit on a normal garage forecourt and it would take 3 days to fill up ,do you unhitch and just take the tractor in ?
Never had an issue with Keyfuels, but UK Fuels at both Lymm and Alconbury is a nightmare. Takes at least 4 attempts on the machine to accept it, but Colsterworth is no problem
It’s because they don’t clean the machines. When I was manager at a Keyfuels station they sent you a box of cleaning pads, basically a thick wet-wipe in the shape of a credit card, and you inserted them into the readers a dozen times to clean the heads. They used to come out black and often needed several cards to get them minty clean. I doubt that most bunker sites - especially the automated ones - even bother, and that’s the problem. Part of the blame lay with the drivers who don’t look after the card and leave it unprotected in the tray in the dash, then proceed to throw their keys, phone, ■■■■, coins, pens on top of the mag strip which then gets covered in grime and ends up being transferred onto the heads in the reader the next time it’s used.
Get a proper fuel card B.P or SHELL should do it .
Given up on Lymm. Takes several attempts to get the card reader to work by which time I’ve forgotten all those numbers! If I’m buying hundreds of pounds worth of fuel, it’s nice to get a little bit of service.
Just use Tesco… Exellent club card points ))))

And many drivers use diesel covered gloves when they have the card in their hand, it used to be exactly the same in the Shell station in calais

I’m guilty of it myself. Keeping the company truck’s fuel card clean is the last thing on my mind when I’m having to paddle in a pool of diesel to fill the ■■■■ thing up.

What Tesco forecourt can you get into with an artic though? I keep getting texts from my fuel provider telling me that Tesco is now part of the UK Fuels network but I’ve not seen any Tescos where you could get in with an artic.
Ipswich copdock has dedicated HGV pumps and parking
Peterborough… Use it all the time… You need to have a look and make the call yourself…
