Kent Police Undercover

Kent Police are using a hired Renault unit from MV Trucks to catch truck drivers, from what I saw on TV today it looks like the limiter has been disabled!

Police said drivers were also fined for eating, drinking, steering with their knees and reading a map while driving.

What’s the problem with eating or drinking? You don’t drive with your mouth.

I see your point but I think the way they look at it is… you can’t open a crisp packet / bottle / can etc with one hand therefore end up with no hands on steering wheel

I don’t think it is aimed at the reasonable drivers. The ‘target’ would be mr trucker watching his DVD on his laptop whilst eating a bag of chips and drinking a beer at 56mph.
I am sure they don’t want to persecute people?

Heard about this a while ago from one of my mates who is involved in the operation, said that is near enough easy pickings all day with so many offenders out there!

Always be wary of a unit on its own!

Given that the per-vehicle-kilometre accident rate for HGVs is around half of that of cars, you would think that the Filth might want to ■■■■ off and catch the real traffic offenders.

I suppose their logic is that if Mr Singh and Mr Patel can’t afford car insurance, then they can’t afford to pay the fine.

This was the ITV report earlier this evening:

Looks like some deserve to be caught!

The thing with the Romanian driver has obviously been lifted from YouTube, was not filmed in the UK and has nothing to do with Kent Police’s operation, although many of Meridian’s viewers will be under the impression that it was.

They mostly seem to have caught lorry drivers not wearing seat belts, something which is not a danger to other road users, and as for those caught talking on a mobile phone, traffic police officers talk on their radios all day, that curly wire does not make it any safer.

The police officers shown in this footage are simply parasites, feeding from the public teat, sucking from people who work for a living. They are currently being made redundant left right and centre, and good riddance to them.

So they’re actually breaking EU law then?

Its hard to disagree with you. Its a well known fact that police when they are visible are a deterent to crime. So what do the police do? Yep, they hide themselves !!! You’ve certainley got to question their motives. Of course them now being a ‘target’ led organisation makes answering the question easier !!!

Of course they are not, they do not even need an HGV

vehicles owned or hired without a driver by the armed
services, civil defence services, fire services, and forces
responsible for maintaining public order when the
carriage is undertaken as a consequence of the tasks
assigned to these services and is under their control;

VEHICLE EXEMPT FROM SPEED LIMITER FITMENT BY NATURE OF ITS USE
The vehicle does not require to be fitted with a speed limiter because :
1.
It is owned by the Secretary of State for Defence and used for naval, military or air force purposes
2.
It is used for naval, military or air force purposes and driven under orders of a member of the armed forces of the Crown
3.
It is used for fire and rescue authority, fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes
4.
It is only used on public roads between areas of land in occupation by the keeper of the vehicle for a maximum of six miles per calendar week

Yes, basically the Police work for the Queen, the Queen is German and the Germans won the war several centuries ago.

When plod used to sit up on them little ramps on the side of the Motorways the driving standards where a little bit better, obviously traffic conditions have changed dramatically since then, but the lack of a visible Police presence on the roads has contributed to that, between Scameras the roads are open season for all kinds of dangerous activity. The Police today have forgotten the principals on which they were founded, they’re there to serve and protect, not persecute and punish :unamused:

Over this side of the Atlantic the Police are very visible on the roads, driving standards are not much better than over there, but there’s a lot less aggression and that contributes to road safety, I very rarely see RTAs on the Interstates, whereas over there it’s an everyday occurence.

I also did four 11hr driving days last week, I averaged over 700miles each day, so I wasn’t hanging around, during my day I consumed four 16oz coffees, had a few snacks, read my map, made numerous phone calls and only wore my seatbelt when I went through a DOT scale or saw a cop sitting watching the road, I’d be in the Scrubs if I was back there doing that :unamused:

Peel’s 9 principles;

1.The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder.

2.The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon public approval of police actions.

3.Police must secure the willing co-operation of the public in voluntary observance of the law to be able to secure and maintain the respect of the public.

4.The degree of co-operation of the public that can be secured diminishes proportionately to the necessity of the use of physical force.

5.Police seek and preserve public favour not by catering to public opinion but by constantly demonstrating absolute impartial service to the law.

6.Police use physical force to the extent necessary to secure observance of the law or to restore order only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient.

7.Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence

8.Police should always direct their action strictly towards their functions and never appear to usurp the powers of the judiciary.

  1. The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it.

My bold may help with some of the criticisms posted

That’s right, they haven’t even got their own punters, they are having to rely on North Wales police for their shock horror stories of drivers cooking whilst driving. If anyone asks you what they were cooking again Plod, it was Nasi Goreng :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps the Police ought to get an undercover blinged-up caravan and tow it round to ■■■■■ sites to see what happens to all of that copper cable stolen from the railway.

But do you think they would do that? No chance. They would be far too cowardly to take on real criminals.

Thats a very interesting snippet you posted. Does nothing to address my critiscisms though.
hello, police, i’d like to report a burgulary…
Hi sir, can i ask how you would describe your ethnicity….i just want to report some burgulars.
How do you know they are burgulars?...they’ve smashed a window and are getting in.
Are you sure they don’t live there?...erm, no not 100%
ok ring us back if it is a burgulary, i’ll give you a incident number and they’ll give you a crime reference if it does turn out to be a burgulary….ok, thanks for your help.
Oh, before you go sir, could you just please tell me what ■■■ you are and what is your religion?

And thats not from reading the Daily Mail, thats first hand experience. They’re a waste of space, i’d like my money back. I wouldn’t pay volountarily for the service they provide, put it that way. Lots of people think the same, thats why there’s been a massive increase in the private security sector, that how much faith people have in them.
There’s no excuse, sneaking around in unmarked HGV to catch drivers having a drink or eating a sarnie or on the phone? Thats pathetic and its just a revenue collector and as a bonus it gets detection rates up. You can’t easily measure a ‘deterrent’. And if what you highlighted was true how it operates then they would not ask stupid questions to make sure they tick all the boxes and then televise their activities as part of a PR stunt.

probably easier sticking someone on for using their phone than shutting a motorway for a few hours, searching a body or two for I.D, measuring up all the skid marks, having the vehicles involved examined and then going round someone’s house to deliver a death message…

That’s interesting Malc, but they might be even further out of scope than you’d think, cos they don’t even appear to be performing “carriage.”
